GE bottom freezer stopped cooling sporadically every 1-2 days then cools again with no intervention. Unit is 5 yrs old.

Put the old board back in. See what it does, from your post, sounds like it was working correctly.

Sounds like the damper controller is stuck due to obstruction or isn't working at all and needs replaced.

Bad smell from fridge (not mouldy food)?

There is no danger if there is a leak, but the refrigerator will quit cooling. I suspect perhaps you have a dead something underneath or behind the refrigerator. I hope this helps... but I also suspect you have cleared the problem by now.

STANDING WATER UNDER DELI TRAY

Try going further than defrost and draining the hose. There is gunk that builds up and you need to clean that out. Use a pipe cleaner(the fuzzy wires used mostly for art projects. They actually can clean pipes and water lines!!) Also, you can pick up a pack of pellets used for breaking down the "gunk" build up.

Control board and wiring harness which are supposed to replace Frigidaire 242000406 are apparently not correct. I have now installed 2 of the new control boards and I am unable to get any power to the...

Hello Gentlemen;

My name is Peter; I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The two of you are on the right track.

The board that you replaced;

19294535-2wop33oc00rzrbarpm5t54vf-3-0.jpg
Substitution: 5303918498
The electronic control board controls the major electro-mechanical components in the refrigerator. When the electronic control board senses the compressor needs to run to cool the refrigerator, it sends voltage to the compressor and fans. It then receives input from temperature sensors to monitor the temperatures inside the refrigerator and freezer sections.

This is a substitution and can not communicate with your existing electrical control board. You need tor replace this board was well:

Substitution: 241973711 Cost: $83.00

The electronic control board 241973711 controls the major electro-mechanical components in the refrigerator. When the electronic control board senses the compressor needs to run to cool the refrigerator, it sends voltage to the compressor and fans.

When you plugged in your old board and got power, that is because the two boards were communicating.

When you change the board be careful to ground yourself by touching something that is bare metal. Static electricity will knock out a board.

The Electrolux Frigidaire Refrigerator is a good unit. It should last you 20-30 years. If you want a unit that is in constant repair, buy either a Samsung or LG. They have the highest failure and repair cost of all of the manufacturers.

20.0 cu.ft upright frigidaire. I unpluged it because we were moving and it set for a while before we pluged it back up about six to ten months now it nolonger gets cold. what problem do i have?

Hi Kenneth.

I understood that the fridge is starting but does not cool.

Check fridge temperature settings.

Check if the motor is starting. If the compressor is not running of if it clicks and does not start is the relay/capacitor connected to the motor.

Check if coils have been damaged or if the motor runs most of the time. If there have been a leak or if the refrigerant pressure is low the fridge will not cool.

If thermostat or electronic control is defective the fridge will not cool.

I can be a bit more specific if you give me the complete model number.

Your tech doesn't have the issue completely fixed. You have a defrost issue and defrosting manually is just the start to resolving your issue. You have to diagnose why it fails to defrost. You have a heater, control thermostat,frost sensor, etc. to check for a failure after defrosting it. Get someone that knows how to complete the job right!

Power on but fridge/freezer not working (only lights)

Yes, boards may need replacing, but not at the expense of the door, apparantly your "engineer" would rather work on older models that may require a hammer. Best advice would be given knowing the make and model number of your unit. A professional should be able to diagnose the board processes as well as the compressor in a short amount of time. Check the defrost heater (after pwr is restored to unit) for the freezer side (placement depending upon model) for continuity (basically a heating element for the evaporator coils - which will freeze without defrost). Proper defrost will help lessen the load on the compressor. Check the overload relay on the compressor itself for failure and replacement of relay. Have the unit defrosted, svc defrost htr, thermostats/thermolinks , compressor, before checking computer board operations.
