Ive just bought a samsung vr 357 vhs/dvd recorder and I would like to back up all of my vhs movies onto dvd,I know the quality will not be good, i have about 4000 movies to save to disc,then i can throw my vhs tapes away or give them to good will perhaps.
i need a solution to my problem, i wonder if there is a way i can disable the copy protection that is on the vhs tapes ???
thanks for your time , have a jolly good day :-}
What you need
A DVD Recorder ->
A DVD recorder is a device that looks like a DVD player, but with a writing function that can write content from external source onto a DVD disc. If you have ever read any other VHS to DVD tutorial, it should not be strange to you. In this case, we write VHS cassette footage onto a DVD disc.
A VHS player and your VHS cassette ->
Find them in whatever corner you left them years ago, and dust off.
An RCA or S-Video cable ->
This is the cable that connects your DVD recorder and your VHS player. Also be sure that your DVD recorder and VHS player are compatible with this kind cable, which they usually do.
How you do it
Step 1: Prepare everything mentioned above, and this VHS to DVD tutorial at hand.
Step 2: Connect your VHS player to your DVD recorder.
Step 3: Insert your VHS video tape to the player and a blank DVD to the DVD recorder.
Step 4: Hit the Record button on your DVD recorder.
Step 5: Press Play on your VHS player as soon as you pressed Record on your DVD recorder.
Step 6: Now just wait in patience. You need to press Stop button on the DVD recorder when it comes to the end of VHS tape.

Yeah you can sue me
Dimax GREX or DVD Red Pro can be used, just not with dyb feature. See their site for connections
Do a search for the dp5000 unit on line its cost about $119.00 $12.00 shipping i have one and it works flawles. it will remove the copy guard but remember this should not be abused if you know what i mean it works both on vhs and dvd you can copy any thing. you will need another cheap player to do this out from the player into the DP 5000 into the recorder I have been coping all my vhs to dvd and the nice think is you can watch any channel on tv while runing in the background this is only available when going from vhs to dvd when dvd to dvd you have to watch it or put it on timer you cannot watch another channel. i bought a samsung dvd vhs player from sams club for 79.00 the dp 5000 for $119 and i say the investment was worth it . i have a dvd player in my car and to take originals with me would be a disaster as some time i get sloppy with them
I do not think you would have to worry about a way to disable the copy protection that is on the vhs tapes. you are not going to record over them. You are just going to transfer information to the dvd side. jh

I also hve numerous, vintage VHS tapes some protected some not. The vr357 does copy some of the older ones but not the newer ones. I would like to put them on DVD for the sake of space. The vr357 does an outstanding jod of copying correctly and the HDMI outputs an excellent picture to the monitor. Any solutions to modifying the vr357 would be appreciated.
I just got the samsung VR 357 and couldn't seem to copy my children's Disney VHS to DVD. Suggestions?
I have a Samsung DVD-VR 357 and I am unable to transfer my vhs that are protected. The solution given is obviously irrelevant because the protection kicks in during the transfer of the vhs data to dvd. Could someone please assist me with this problem?
