My spec as follows 47lw6500 lg using only HDMI cable from cable setup box hrs used 13,400hrs 1st symptom: after 3 yrs my magic remote cursor quit working. then several months after, 2nd symptom the LED screen went off suddenly while I was watching a program, no audio and display, then I unplugged power cable after ten minutes and turn back on again. It comeback on normally sound and display but after 15 minutes of watching the screen goes blank dark again no sound no display. the 2nd time, I repeated the same procedure unplug and replug to no success, even after 24hrs there is no more picture or sound at all. Just power lights turning on doing their normal thing but nothing on display. I had done several flash light test; no picture and also dark room to see any illumination of the at the back of panel; there was no light at all. The front panel power light comes on normally and stays on, also goes off normally after I pressed the power button from remote or direct touch of tv switch to switch off. Only there is no picture or sound. Can you please help? What is the cause of this problem? Can it be fixed by replacing the main board or is it a case of bad LED? Your help is very much appreciated. Ok so, I was having the same exact problem but I got mine to work.

Make sure you have your HDMI cable is connected from the TV and cable box....

1)Turn off your tv and reboot your cable box (my cable box was rebooted by pushing the following buttons AT THE SAME TIME: "info," "vol ," and "vol-").

2)Once your cable box reboots completely, power it and the TV on...

3)Push your INPUT button on the actual TV REMOTE. Give it a couple of seconds and then use your CABLE BOX REMOTE to begin switching the channels. Your HD channels will be in the 600's if you have the same cable company as I do.

NOTE: Your COAXIAL should only be plugged in from the cable outlet on the wall to the cable box. Your HDMI cable will be the one to plug FROM the CABLE BOX to the TV

if the Comcast cable box has an HDMI output, it should connect directly to one of the TV HDMI inputs. Then connect the LG DVD unit HDMI output to the second HDMI input of the TV. Use two HDMI cables. Do not buy the expensive Monster HDMI cables. If you have already done so, I recommend you take it back for a refund, then buy the low cost HDMI cables which will work just as good and then you can bank the savings toward a new Porsche Boxter!! Now we have the video connected from both the cable box and the LG system.

Now--what do you do if the cable box does not have an HDMI output--just use its component output and your component cable (red, blue and green) to connect to the TV component input. This will still get the video to the TV and good HD pictures. Hum--do you have an HD cable box? You did not say and I just assumed that you did since you got the HDTV. If not, let me know with a follow up question and I will assist in that area further.

Now for the audio connections--The DVD player will not need any connections since it in the LG unit. The sound will come out the speakers when you start playing the DVD. The cable box is where we get the TV audio to feed the LG unit. If the cable box has an optical output, use an optical cable (again the low cost one)and connect to the optical input on the LG.
This will get the TV audio to the surround system. If no optical output, use the red and white (left/right) audio connections and connect to one of the two the LG audio inputs. To hear TV audio on the LG speakers, just switch to that input or the input associated with the optical input.

To watch DVDs, switch the TV to the HDMI input to which you connected the LG unit. For TV, go to the other HDMI input (or component input).
Switch the LG to the audio input to which you connected the cable box to get TV sound.

I encountered the same thing using the HDMI interface on my new TWC cable box (Motorola DCX-3200). After a little bit of research, I finally fixed it by changing the digital audio mode in the cable box using this procedure:

1. Be sure the TV is on and connected to the cable box.
2. Using the cable box remote turn power OFF.
3. Immediately press the MENU key on the remote. The USER SETTINGS menu should appear on the TV screen.
4. Select the ADDITIONAL HDMI SETTINGS >>> menu item.
5. The ADDITIONAL HDMI SETTINGS menu will appear.
6. Scroll to the AUDIO OUTPUT item and select this.
7. Change the setting from AUTO to L-PCM.
8. Return to the main page
9. Using the remote, cycle power OFF.
10. When the cable box is turned on again, you should be good to go.

I realize these instructions are specific to the DCX-3200, but there may be a similar setup option available in your cable box as well.

The problem here is that the cable box is by default configured to use Dolby Digital audio, which requires an additional 10dB of headroom to deal with the boosted LFE channel. If the cable operator hasn't taken pains to set the system up correctly (and most haven't, apparently), the digital audio level sent on the HDMI interface will be approximately 11dB down from normal analog line levels on the HDTV channels. Changing to straight linear PCM sets the TV receiver audio level on the HDTV channels to match the levels on the non-HD channels.

The only problem with this fix is that if you intend to feed a Home Theater receiver that uses Dolby Digital processing with the cable box output you will lose the Dolby encoding feature and be forced into straight 2-channel stereo. For a simple installation like mine where I'm just feeding the TV, this fix works fine. If you have a more complex setup that takes advantage of Dolby Digital features (when it's available in program material), you may have to live with the problem.
