Now this one can be challenging. Sometimes (if you can see it and get to it easily) you can take a tool, crescent wrench or something similar and give it a couple of quick raps

If that does not seem to work, then unplug its power source and allow it to reset itself.

Finally, because of computers in systems, it keeps a memory.

Totally clear out the memory by removing the neg battery terminal first, second, remove the pos battery terminal, then touch the two of the ends together and hold for about 30 seconds or so.

That will erase all error codes in you system. Keep in mind that it will also delete radio channels and similar preprogrammed things in vehicle.

BTW...be sture and check fuses. I've seen cars do all sorts of crazy things because a fuse is blown.

These are just some simple suggestions that i hope gets things up and running. Otherwise, dealership gets to fix things.

Have you got a repair manual? Be sure and check out any other type of repairs.

Fuel pump wont shut off turn key on it comes on to pressurize then it wont shut off but there are no leaks

There is an oil pressure switch in parallel with fuel pump relay, if that switch is closed, the fuel pump will run all the time. Click on the link. At the fuel injectors, top wire is voltage, bottom wire is ground. If there is no ground, both wires will have voltage. Make sure battery has a full charge.

My 1993 nissan sentra 1.6 wont run and check engine light wont turn on,bulb is ok

Could be any of several things. If the crank sensor is marginal and not sending pulses, the fuel pump is shut off. This is for safety. The pump is energized for a few seconds as key is turned in preparation for starting then engine must rotate normally to keep the pump on. If it stops, in a few seconds the fuel is cut off.

97 f350 5.8 disconnected fuel line from tanks to inline filter turn on key pump runs momentarily then shuts off only supplying small amount of fuel from either tanks

Generally speaking, its supposed to do that.
The fuel pump(s) is powered by a relay that turns on for 3 seconds when you turn the key on. If the engine does not start and produce oil pressure, thats all the power the pump gets. If you were in a wreck the pump would shut off when the engine dies even with the key on to prevent a fire.
You would need to jumper the relay to make the pump run beyond the 3 second time.

What's your problem?Hi I have a 90 convertible mustang 5.0. My problem is the fuel pump wont shut off when you turn key on. It runs and runs and car wont start. Ive checked all injectors, changed

Dear Charlie,
May I suggest you take the car to a good (old?) mechanic and have it "changed?".
Right now the fuel pump is hooked to the battery directly, which is why the pump will not turn off.
Please have him hook the pump up so it only runs when the ignition is on.
God bless your efforts.

My 02 eclipse shut off while driving and wont start now. I turn the key and it tries to start but wont. My friend said it might be the fuel pump or the relay but we couldnt find the fuel pump relay.

- to check fuel pump/relay- with drivers door open - radio off - insert key and turn from OFF to RUN-not start- should hear a hum from under car back towards tank- relay is under hood in second fuse/relay panel
? did you hit a bump just before car shut off? - if so look in manual for location of EMERGENY FUEL CUTOFF- usually in trunk area- large red push button- can trip sometimes with a hard enough jolt

Car won't start and fuel pump wont shut off when I put my key in the ignition and turn the key

You may have a bad pump or fuel pressure regulator. You will need to pressure test the fuel system.

99 gmc wont start

check electric fuel pump operation ( located in the fuel tank ). Occasionally a fuel pump will burn out when running out of fuel, due to the fact the pump runs DRY for about 30 seconds till the fuel stops flowing out of the injectors, the engine quits, simultainously losing oil pressure which FINALLY shuts off the fuel pump. Sometimes TOO LATE. Hope this helps

I have a 95 Maxima I changed the fuel injectors and now the car wont start. Ā so i put the old injectors back and it still wont turn over, Ā It stay on for about 2 sec can anyone help me

I assume you bled off fuel pressure before you installed the injectors. Try this to pressurize the fuel system. Turn the key to "on" position and wait 5 seconds. AT same time, listen carefully for a buzz sound that means the fuel pump is running to pressurize the system. It will shut off after 5 seconds. Then, turn off the key and wait 30 seconds for the computer power relay to shut off. Then, turn the key to "on" again. Thsi will run the fuel pump for another 5 seconds. Repeat 5 times. Fuel system should be pressurized now.
If it doesn't start now, you may have done something while you were changing the injector. good luck

97 lincoln wont start

usually if you have power it may be a fuel problem, when you turn your key to the on position you should hear your fuel pump come on, if not it could be the fuel pump relay under the hood or a possible bad fuel pump or bad connection on the fuel pump. hope this helps.
