Motorcycle...1988 honda shadow 800.overheating,,tested fan works ..figured it was the thermo switch, put new one in filled up antifreeze,,still overheating,,does this bike have a thermostat in the...

the coolant sensor is in hot water and doesn't have to have circulation work
Check with a service center but as water circulation is controlled to maintain correct engine operating temperature
it should have a thermostat in the system

When I run my bike for an entended amount of time, my temp light comes on and my fan never starts to run. What could be the problem?

If your bike is actually overheating and the fan is not turning on. You either have a bad fan switch ( screws into radiator and has two wires ) or a bad fan motor . A bad fan switch is fairly common on Honda's. The bad news is the switch is about $100 . Try jumping the wires to the switch to see if the motor is bad or not. If the bike is not actually overheating, you could have a temp sender giving the light a false reading. The temp sender is located on the thermostat housing and runs about $50. Remember, Shadows have small radiators and tend to run high on the temp gauge, and , Honda gauges tend to not be that accurate as they age.

2002 Honda Shadow DC750 Spirit - Ingition switch won't engage

Check the wiring connections inside the headlamp shell. They tend to pull apart from vibration and corrode from water entry into the shell. If the start button is indeed frozen (will not move at all)--replace it. Hope this helps!

I have a 2004 Honda Shadow Sabre not charging&fan not working...

I have a 2002 Shadow VT1100C. I recently had to replace the radiator mounted thermostat switch because it did not come on.
Unfortunately I ran the bike until it overheated before I discovered this. The overheating caused my stator to short out to ground (frame). No stator=no charge voltage=dead batttery quick. So I had to take apart the crankshaft, and replace the stator along with the radiator mounted thermostat switch. You will need a shop manual. You need to know how to measure voltage and resistance with a meter. If you need a stator, buy an aftermarket stator because the OEM versions cost 3 times as much.
