Just got new computer & want to set up my bigpond email address.forgotten how.

Step 1: First, Bigpond users need to sign in their Bigpond email account. If login can not completed, Click the "I forgot my password" page.
Step 2: After completed above steps, Bigpond users need to choose bigpond account recovery option.
Select the suitable option which one can fix users problem. (Other option is preferred)

You have to go into your email settings and change the username and password then click on save

You need to go to iTunes online, sign in with your old email address then go to settings and update your contact information.

On an email server you can not change names although you may change passwords. However, the only way for you to use [email protected] is to create a new email address here (https://bigpond.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5750) and if you still want to receive emails from ([email protected]) you click at (Set up email forwarding) in that way you got your new name email address while receiving emails from the old address.

Your question is confusing, do you mean you need a new email address? i.e. [email protected]? Or something else? You cannot change eftel.net.au with bigpond.com, they are different, but you probably you can get one bigpond.com email address with that username "bullentas". You cannot have "[email protected]" unless you sign up with bigpond.com. Create a new account with bigpond.com and assign a username as "bullentas" and "[email protected]" as email address, but if somebody has already got that username or email address, you wont be able to get them.

Sorry you are having this problem,
Sounds to me like your eMail client configuration is incorrect...
Is this a new problem where you were able to send an receive mail no problem before and now this ?
I suspect it is a new set-up.
It looks like you entered your eMail address where the software was asking for the address of the SMTP mail server...
Port 465 is for a secure SMTP Server.
Normally, the SMTP server port is 25 or 26. Have you modified your eMail settings lately ? Or maybe it works well from home but not when you are on another network....
Bigpond has implemented some security on their network, see here:

So, when you are connected to the bigpond network, you must use their SMTP server:
mail.bigpond.com
Otherwise, it will reject the connection.
When you are away from the bigpond network, you might have to ask your host or whoever, who provides the highspeed internet access ? and then google for their smtp server,
ex: securenet.net smtp server earthlink smtp server

you will quickly and easily find this server and all you have to do is enter it temporarily into your SMTP server field in your eMail client settings making sure to set it back to bigpond once you are back home..
THis should get you back on your way again.
