Does the 4.3 motor have a timing chain or a timing belt?

If the top of your motor is steel but the side underpart of it is plastic its a timing belt. However.. Most of the time when they don't have any covers over the motor then it is a Chain driven. But have known LDV to be Chain.

Should be a timing chain. An easy way to tell is when you look at the motor where a timing chain/belt would be, the cover is typically plastic over a belt and aluminum over a chain.(chains sit in oil, belts do not.) Also there are no timing belt kits available for the car just chain kits.

nowhere. it has a timing chain that should last forever as long as you keep your oil in good shape. doesn't matter if you have a 4 cylinder or a v6, they both use chains.

Well as of 2005 or so the v6 tribute has a Ford motor that has a timing chain not a belt the 4 cylinder has a Mazda motor that has a belt and should be changed every 90000 miles. So those swing the v 6 has a belt are totally wrong here

That machine does not have a chain in it. It does have 2 belts a motor belt and a timing belt. Bolth belts very rarely brake. What are the machine symptoms, it may not be a belt at all?

Usualy the only time you would change the belt/chain is when the timing is off.. If you want to get changed it would not hurt things. The more new parts you have the better it runs. If it has never been changed on a vehicle that old and you have the money go ahead.. Hope that helps..
