Volume control knob broken on front of Toshiba Satellite M45 S2692 laptop. no sound now at all from laptop???

This cannot be fixed any way other than repairing the knob or short circuiting the contacts where the potentiometer used to be (not recommended) as your volume will be on full all the time although you could use windows to software turn it down. because if you are going to do that, it wouldnt be much more work to replace the knob.

Goto Start-> Settings-> Control Panel click on sound and audio devices.Click on advanced button under device volume.
On the popup control click on options properties and click on recording if you cannot access that select the drop down above and click on input and then click on ok. Un mute the mic and if you have a recording volume slider , set it to the level you want. Now test by speaking into your mic and set recording volume.

Sound can not come out

On Toshiba laptops there is an external volume control located around the edges of the laptop, they are usually located on the front or the side. Make sure the control is turned up.

Play a song on the laptop and then turn the volume wheel either way to see if that will increase the volume.

My laptop is playing sound at a very low level. All the volume controls are turned up to the max, but I can barely hear anything through the built-in speakers or through earbuds. Toshiba Satellite A101...

Usually what happens hear is that a program such as media player or a dvd player will have its volume turned down and that overides the overall volume.

The trick is finding it. You need to open up any and all programs you have used with some kind of volume control and check they are turned up then close them.

You will never get super loud sound on your speakers but they should be easily heard. I've run across this on both my tosh laptop and a desktop.

Send me the URN for my model

Some things I'd check first:

1) Device Manager: confirm you have a hardware/driver issue: you'd see a yellow circle with exclamation mark next to the item with a problem

2) Sound and Audio Devices - that the system Master Volume isn't muted AND check that the volume is set; while you are at it check that the "Wave" input isn't muted/volume is turned up

3) Check the external volume control - set it at half way

4) try using a set of headphones (rule out bad laptop speakers?)

In terms of drivers, do you have a Satellite A60 (vs EA60-155)? I couldn't see that model on the download support pages:

Toshiba Canada
Toshiba USA
Toshiba Europe

All require you to specify the model, then specific model. I used the EU site for the Satellite A60 laptop. Among the list of drivers shown, I see one for the sound card.
