My handset says "searching" and doesn't have a dialtone. I tried a Basic Reset and it didn't help.

Bring the handset that says searching into the same room as the base and see if the handset stops searching. Next unplug the handset batteries (yes from all handsets) and the base power cord (from both the base and the wall outlet). Wait a few minutes and then reconnect the batteries and base power cord. Next try to de-register and then re-register the handsets. (If you add a comment with the phone model, I'll help you with this step. If this doesn't help, next try a new battery (and make sure that the battery is fully charged) for the phone. (If the phone is under warranty, contact Uniden. Note: batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time. This includes the time on the shelf in the package.)

If a new battery doesn't help, then there is something wrong with the handset. Decide if it is worth having the unit fixed if the phone is out of warranty.

(I'm assuming that both handsets are cordless. If you have a corded/cordless model, then check that the base has power before you go farther with the above diagnostics. The power brick should be warm. We had a cordless phone on a power strip (UPS) that got turned off. The handset was searching for a signal that wasn't being sent. If you have power to the base, try sending the Find Handset message. The problem could be either the base or the handset not sending and receiving the signals between them.)

what did you end up doing? i have the same problem.

try to take out the battery and then insert it again hope it will help you worked for some similar devices of mine

To program one of the three emergency buttons:
1) lift the handset and wait for dialtone
2) press the STORE button
3) dial the phone number
4) press the STORE button
5) press one of the three emergency buttons
6) replace the handset in the cradle
To use; lift handset and press an emergency button, the phone dials the number stored for that button

To program one of the ten memory locations:
1) lift the handset and wait for dialtone
2) press the STORE button
3) dial the phone number
4) press the STORE button
5) dial a one digit number(0-9) to store the number in that location
6) replace the handset in the cradle
To use: lift the handset, press the MEMORY button, dial the memory location digit(0-9), the phone dials the number stored in that memory location

I agree that the battery sounds good.
So, do you have another phone to confirm that you have dialtone coming into your home?
If so, then the two ends of your wireless phone are not communicating...
They will try to resync if you power both ends off for a few minutes (unplug the base and remove the battery from the handset).

After a few minutes off, reconnect everything and place the handset in the base.....
After 5 or so minutes, test again. If it is NOT broken inside, it should provide dialtone (if it is coming into your home).

Reset Procedure for Cordless Phones
1. Disconnect Battery from handset(s)
2. Disconnect Phone Cord from wall jack
3. Disconnect Phone cord from base unit
4. Disconnect AC adapter from wall outlet
5. Allow to sit for 30 min
6. Reconnect Phone Cord to base
7. Reconnect Phone cord to wall jack
8. Reconnect AC Adapter to wall outlet
9. Reconnect Battery to hanset until you click or feel the plug snap into place
10. Re-Register Handset by placing on main base in most instances.

Deregistered 4 handsets, on suggestion from FixYa, by pressing hangup & # sign.
Then reregistered to base.

I think I have the same phone. You have to put the handset with no dialtone in the main charger for about 30 seconds to reset it to the base.
