Wow ,, without the model number for that it will be very hard to give you step by step instructions or even tell if its compatible. but dont fear there is a possible solution. Notice that code search button the the remote ?? well basically some TV's share the same code so even if it inst listed doesn't mean it wont work.. Unfortunately you will need manual to tell you the exact procedure, but it should be something along the following..

1.) turn the tv on
2.) press and hold code search for 2 seconds or more until the LED lights continuously,
3.) press the tv button the led should blink and go out or bink and come back on.
4.) press the power button, if the tv turns off press the enter button to store the code.
5.) if nothing happens repeat steps 4 and 5.

Hello!! There are a few ways to get this working to shut off the TV. I put some instructions at the bottom here. These are instructions for a power scan, which scans the TV for the correct code.


1. Hold down the Clear TV button until all lights at the top of the remote light up
2. Press the red TV POWER button
3. Press and release the up arrow on the remote about once a second until the tv turns off.
4. When it turns off, press the # (Pound) button
5. Try powering the tv on/off, and try the volume. If one or more of these functions do not work, start over at step 1 again.

As we dont know the TV make you can use code search method.
It basically searchs the codes automatically.

follow the below steps to set remote without codes

Code Search:

1. Turn on the device you wish to control.

2. Press and hold "CODE SEARCH".

3. Press and release the TV, VCR or Cable button. If programming an AUX position, press and release AUX first and then press the device type to be programmed.

4. Release "CODE SEARCH".

5. Press ON/OFF repeatedly until the device turns off.

6. When the device shuts off press and release ENTER.

7. Try using the remote. If it does not function repeat steps 1 through 6

Find the code your device.

You will need to either find a Sony remote with the PIP off button or a Sony remote with a RESET button. Borrow from a neighbor if needed. The newer TVs do not have a reset button, but the old ones do. The PIP OFF is self-explanatory... The RESET button method requires you to do this: With the TV on, point the remote at the TV and press and hold the RESET button on the remote, then press the power button on the TV. The TV we do a factory reset.

your remote is old and needs to be cleaned and rebuttoned(you can do this yourself) open up the battery panel and look for small screws to take of the case. you need to dust it out with compressed air. and reline the buttons. when you push down on the power button it probbaly is not making complete contact with the button, take a small thing and poke the power button without the buttons on. see if that works. if it turns on right away with direct pressure to the power switch then you just need to make sure your buttons are making complete contact. if that dont work then your circuit is screwed. you need a new remote or a new tv.

Is there a way you can power it on, by pressing hard on the button? The get a new Universal remote and program the TV.

Otherwise, it might be time to get a new TV.

If you dont have the codes for a philips universal remote you have to press code search and TV at the same time till the led light stays on. Then press the power button a few times untill the power turns your TV off, then press the OK button. After that the code should be in the remote.
