My remote is not working even with a new battery. Door won't close unless I hold the garage button down until door is closed all the way.

It sounds like you may have a problem with the eyes at the bottom of the door jam. These two eyes must be aligned so the light from one is picked up by the other one. Sometimes they get bumped by accident and need to be re-aligned. Check at the top of the eye where it is touching the metal bracket. If it has been moved the plastic pin on top of the light sensor will be out of the hole in the metal bracket. carefully move the plastic light body until it snaps into the hole on the metal bracket. Then try the remote. If that doesn't work, check both boxes on each side of the garage jam. one should send out a light beam and the other one should receive it. Try this. In the dark put a piece of paper in front of the unit that is NOT sending out light the beam. Line up the light beam with the receiver hole on the side of the unit. move it around until it shines into the eye on the side of the other unit. Try the opener. See if solves your problem. If I get to a point like this where nothing I try works I get out a tool that always fixes anything, my checkbook. Good luck. :)

Check the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a little. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors.

I have a Sears craftsman model 139.53637SRT garage door opener. My remote has not worked in a long time. I use the wall control button and have to hold the button in order to open or close the garage door....

It sounds like your door sensors may be bad or misaligned. Make sure the small light on each sensor is lit and not flickering. That could be the cause of your having to hold the wall button down until the door is closed. You can buy a universal remote but if you only had one remote before it could be the receiver that has quit. A new remote would not fix that but the only way to find out is to try.

Garage door only closes halfway

If the main light is flashing 10 times when the door reverses when closing it is a door sensor problem. You can override this with the door control but not with a remote. Make sure the door sensors are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is on and not flickering.

My Craftsman remote won't close my garage door

If the remote opens and closes while inside the garage but not outside , there are a few things it could be. Assuming it was working fine before..
1. weak battery in remote.
2. remote itself could be bad. (unless you have more than 1 remote acting the same)
3. Logic board in opener is going bad causing limited range. Is the wire that hangs down from the opener straightened out? That is your remote antenna. Some people have coiled or even cut it off..reducing range.
4. Less likely but this can happen- interference from another electronic device, wireless routers, cell phone, new appliances etc.. can reduce remote range. Any new electronics recently purchased?

Wall mount button LED is flashing, remotes won't work, door won't close unless the wall mount button is held down until the door is fully closed

Sounds like you have a couple problems. First of all press and hold the button on the wall control that has a lock icon for 3 seconds and release. This should take care of the flashing LED and the remotes will now work. Having to hold the button on the wall control until the door is closed is usually a problem with the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each is lit and not flickering.

Sears craftsman garage door opener

HOLDING DOWN THE WALL BUTTON OVERRIDES THE SAFETY EYES.
WHEN HOLDING IT DOWN MAKES THE DOOR CLOSE PROPERLY THE PROBLEM IS IN THE SAFETY EYES.

ARE BOTH LEDS ON? - CHECK FOR A LOOSE OR BROKEN WIRE.
ARE THE EYES WIRED CORRECTLY?
ARE THEY AIMED AT EACH OTHER?
