I have been battling with my Opel corsa lite 1.4i 2003. It keeps revving high in-between gears and when I approach a traffic light. Sometimes it will come down by itself when the heat gage is exactly in the middle but it never stays there or when i quickly push ******* the accelerator but it doesn't like it when I use the accelerator changing gears. We cleaned the mass airflow with carb cleaner.worked for 2 weeks but it came back.it sounds like my engine is going to fall out. Maybe some valve could be broken, something to do with the fuel and air mix. my father in law thinks it could be the thermostat housing. my dad to remove the thermostat. Please advise. Being a single mum and battling like this is awful and I am scared that my car's engine will cease.
Have you checked the air bypass valve, it may be sticking open and causing a high idle speed.
Testimonial: "Hi there. we have replaced the idling valve and I then left the battery off for over 8 hours and it still revving high. I have a friend who mentioned that I must replace the MAP sensor as it may be faulty as he knew someone who had the same problem with her Astra. I don't know many scrapyards, can you recommend in JHB?"
Thanks I will let someone have a look at that. I'm hoping it something that's not expensive to replace.
It really would have helped if you told me what you have replaced, in the future please do this. Now back to the high idle speed, the cause I think is a leaking intake manifold gasket, to verify this buy a can of spray Carburetor cleaner from any auto parts store, spray the cleaner around the entire area where the intake is bolted to the engine, if the engine slows down or starts sputtering or dies out you have found a leak. The idle speed of modern cars and light gas trucks is controlled by a metered vacuum leak, the device that controls this is called the Idle Speed Control valve (ISC), so any other leak increases the idle speed.
Thank you for the time and advice. we found the problem. we replaced the TPS (throttle position sensor) as that was faulty. so much better now :) Thanks again.
