Being a business band type of radio, you most likely need the PC programming cable and software. It may be less expensive to take it (them) to a Kenwood dealer. 98% of all business band radios are still programmed using software and cables. Hope this helps!

Read/Write password lock out

There is no way you will be able to unlock your radio.
If you are lucky and the dealer left the "Cloning" Option checked in programmation you *should* be able to clone it with your other TK-7160 with a Cloning Cable.

If this does not work, you'll need to contact Kenwood and by Serial # they will tell you who was the original dealer. Then, contact the dealer and ask for the PW or maybe they'll unlock it for you for 20$-30$.

If the dealer is not the last person who put a PW in the unit, kenwood will have to do it. (~80$-100$.)

Sorry...

Kenwood deck reads protect and won't function

you have one of your speaker wires shorted out to the body of the car somewhere, or the speakers that you installed are bad. That is the only two reasons it will go into protect. Correct the problem, then reset the deck - it should work fine.
Kenwood builds this feature in to protect the outputs - so they dont burn up in the case of shorted speakers or wiring.

Protected

Wires are exposed. According to the manual, the wiring is grounding out or exposed at some point between the head unit and the speakers.
