Did you try a reset. Turn off the unit. Hold the bottom right side of the screen and turn the GPS back on. It will make you confirm you want to reset. It will clear out all you favorites etc.. so copy them first if needed. Then I would go to the Garmin site a register and update the unit. See if this works

Garmin Sat Navs do this when the map is one year old. It can be updated by going to the Garmin website www.garmin.com. Connect your Satnav to your pc and register it if you have not already. The site will lead you to your update which can be downloaded if you have broadband or posted on DVD if you prefer. It is expensive so you need to consider if it's worth updating or not.

The error message you are receiving about maps is actually a sign of a firmware corruption problem, which just happens from time to time with electronic devices. Updating the firmware of your nuvi will replace the corrupt firmware.

These are the steps to take to update your Nuvi 200:

Download and then run Garmin 200 WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software. Occasionally a nuvi 200 will also need a Hard Reset (preceded by a favorites backup) to bring it back to 100% operation.

You can go to mygarmin.com or garmin.com . You have to register. It is for FREE. Then,you can update your GPS. You can also download maps by just following the screen instructions.
You can also find all the software/drivers you need there.

You can update mapping software on most sat nav units to take into account alterations to the road network. Either from your PC, in the case of portable sat navs; or via your phones GPRS connection, in the case of phone models. Always check the level of mapping that comes with your equipment in the first place. Is it up-to-date?
. Every couple of years Garmin will release a map update, which you can get on DVD or download - you've got to pay for it though!

I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOUR Garmin before you load any maps.

The only way to get a map update cheaper would be to buy the lifetime update, which lets you update your unit up to 4 times/year (by downloads from their homepage) for a fix sum only slighly more expansiver than the regular update.
By doing more than one update however, the price per update is almost half of just buying an onetime update.
