Where is the backlight inverter located in an Sanyo 32 LCD model DP32242 television? Does anyone know if it is part of the power supply board?

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

chances are your backlight inverter circuit has failed, repaired one a few months back with the same problem. To verify this, take the tv in a dark room. plug it in and take a bright\ flash light and shine it on the screen. turn the set on, you should see either the screen saver or video from your source. If this is the case, your inverter is at fault. Depending on your model, your backlight inverter is built onto your power supply board so you will have to replace the power supply/inverter board. Not hard to do, you can do it yourself with care.

Did you chaeck first to find out if the power supply is putting out 24vdc for the inverter board, and also if the inverter is getting the backlight_on signal from the main board.

This failure is cause by the absence of 24 volts from the power supply to the backlight inverter board.
Defective backlight inverter board.
Defective CCFL that is inside behind the screen.
The easier way to troubleshoot it is by measuring the voltage from the power supply, if the voltage is present then the next step is to replace the backlight inverter board and lastly if the TV doesn't work; then the repair is a bit more challenging to replace the CCFL light(s).

It could be the power supply or the short circuits in the backlight inverter board tah caused the power supply to go into the shutdown mode. Those are the two main things to check.

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

I would suggest to check the 24 volts from the power supply to the backlight inverter board. If the voltgage is missing or lower then 20 volts, the power supply is defective. If the voltage is correct, you might have a defective light inside the TV behind the screen since you've replaced the backlight inverter board; you now the failure is not there. The lights are connected to the backlight inverter board.

This is a backlight or inverter Problem. Based on the model you have, I am guessing the inverter is defective.

Inverter is defined as the board in the TV that supplies power for the flourescent lights inside the LCD TV that provide backlighting for the TV's Display
