Pixelated unreadable, scrambled words in menus

On certain menus, the words are pixelated and scrambled. You can't read them or even select them.

Part of the display control has failed disabling sections of the display. You might check with TI to see if they have a fair repair price, this is not likely to be one you can solve.
The only possibility would be to disassemble the case to gain access to the display. If TI doesn't repair them at a fair cost, you might try to remove the LCD display from its mounting or, if it seems practical, to stress the display from the side. The contacting of an LCD is done with a silicone rubber strip with embedded fine wires that carry the control signals from the printed circuit board to lightly plated corresponding contacts on the glass of the LCD. The positioning of this strip is extremely critical and is dependent on precise pressure on the silicone strip. Yours may have 'slipped' but the error could be cause by poor positioning at the factory that has just now revealed itself. The difference between contact and no contact at the junction of the strip and plated glass area could be a couple thousandths of an inch. You may make it worse instead of better but if it is unreadable anyhow, it really doesn't matter.

SOURCE: Texas Instruments TI-89 calculator/unreadable pixelated words

If to much memory is being used up the calculator will behave like that. Sometimes if you download programs (mainly ASM) that didn't work with your hardware version (mainly 2) you can get this types of problems. I would be willing to work with you more on this by email if you like.

Plus I can download instructions that will help you operate your calculator that can be overlooked in the manual or any datadump.

My printer prints email etc. but will not print anything from my computer...example: word documents

I assume you mean that you can print from Outlook or other e-mail program (Outlook Express, LiveMail, Thunderbird). Are you reading your e-mail on the same computer that can't print Word documents?

If yes, one thing to try is to change the font on the Word document. For some reason, certain fonts just do not work. (Most often it is an issue with a document (or template) created on a different computer (or before upgrading the OS) and the font info gets scrambled in the transfer.) Just select all (control-A or Edit, Select All) and choose a new font. If the document has multiple fonts, do not use select all but highlight the sections separately and change the font.

If it is a different computer, check that the network is active and that all the correct drivers are installed. (One thing to check is a Universal Print Driver (UPD) software needs both the 32 and 64 bit drivers if the network has a mix of OS's. This comes up when the printer is attached to one computer and it serves as the print server.)

Reads games as DVDS But when read as a game

Quite possibly the laser is becoming weaker, which causes read issues. First thing to try is simply putting a cleaner disc in and running it a few times.

How do I download a Word 97 Document on Floppy Disc to Windows Vista Word Document?

Hi. If I understand correctly, you want to be able to read a word 97 document (and edit it as well, maybe) in Vista Word? If that is what you are asking, open Vista Word and go to file > open, then find the floppy drive in the selection window. Find the document on the floppy and click on it and select open (or just double click it). If it is scrambled or does not open and you get a warming window that reads something like "cannot open file..." or or "cannot read file...) then you may have to download an add on from the Microsoft site. It is an add on that allows Vista to convert MS Word files so it can read them. I must say though, it really should be able to read it as is. Then save it in the native file format of Vista Word. Hopefully this helps.

After scanning will not bring up on ms office word

Most ikely your scanned document is a GIF, JPG, BMP or even PDF document and not a word document, as for scanning it into word requires special software (OCR software). Try this:
right click on your scanned document and select properties. It should tell you which file type it concerns, which is probably one the options i gave above. If it is an image. try opening the document with a picture viewingprogram such as paint, microsoft pictureviewer or any other picture viewing software. If it is adobe document, you should open it with adobe reader (free availav\ble on the web).

Image quality in MS Word

JPEG is a raster image. Every pixel is identified to the computer.
MS Word is resizing the picture to make it fit. When it does this it causes pixels to disappear. This is why you will get blocky images and or unreadable text.

The Solution is

Re size the image and bump the dpi to at least 300. This will add enough pixels to where you won't notice the stair step.

The professional way to do it is with Vector images. This is difficult to do if you are using a photograph. You will need to plot the image out (basically re draw it with lines and bucket fills)

Hope this helps you.
