Hello Laurie, thank you for your post!
Based off what you have described your Electrolux wall oven will not start self-clean due to the oven stating the racks need to be removed. You may need to perform a reset on the oven to clear out the code. A reset can be done by disconnecting power from the oven for at least ten minutes this can usually be done by flipping the household circuit breaker off. If that does not help to correct the issue you may need to have a professional out to your home for a proper diagnosis and repair. -Matt

SOURCE: I am trying to clean

Hello Cynthia,

Welcome to FixYa.

Is this the first time the un it has been set for self-clean ? Or is it the first time you have set it for self clean ?

The reason I ask is based on your post "The racks are removed. When I try to start the self cleaning feature - a message flashes in red to remove oven racks " I really don't think anything is wrong with your oven.

This is simply a reminder to remove your racks before the oven reaches the temperature ( usually above 550 ) which the door cannot be opened even by canceling the clean cycle until it cools down below 550...a safety measure.

If you allow the unit to proceed through the self clean the message will go away after a while and the cycle will continue on it's merry way.

Hope that answers your question or quells your concern. Those darn self clean ovens get so hot they will make your nice racks look like barbecue grills if left in during the cleaning, it is definitely better to be sure now than sorry later though, glad you asked.

Thank you for choosing FixYa. Let me know if you need any further assistance and good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

On my model #EW30EW65GS3 in the self cleaning cycle even tho I removed all the racks & the rack supports it keeps flashing remove racks

Hello. From what you're describing, there might be a problem with the rack switch. It is connected directly to the main oven display board at connector P10 for a single oven(See pic 3, left side, middle). On the double oven model, there will be a P12 connector near the same area. TURN OFF POWER TO THE OVEN BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO CHECK ANYTHING!! On the double oven display board, there will be a connector P10 and P12 for the upper and lower oven racks. The part number for the main oven display board is 7316516536 in case the switches are good. The rack switch part number for the upper and lower oven is 7318903403. The part number is the same for the switch in the single oven model. Note the designation on the exploded parts diagram as 14(with a circle around the part). I've included the last pic(the oven relay board) just for future information. The part number for it is 7316443919(dual oven relay board). If you are hesitant about attempting to troubleshoot the oven, definitely call for service! This can be an INVOLVED REPAIR requiring advanced troubleshooting. The connectors on the circuit board can be damaged easily as they are multi-pin devices. You will need a voltage/ohm meter with fine probe tips to perform continuity checks on the rack switch(s). I hope I helped you!

Electrolux Icon range won't self clean - "Remove Racks" displayed

Good Morning Friend,

I understand you are unable to self-clean your Electrolux Icon range, model# E30SO75ESS, due to it stating "Remove Racks", when you already have. Please follow these instructions for cleaning your oven:

1. Remove the turntable from the oven before the Refresh Cycle. No food should be in the oven.
2. The Refresh Cycle is 30 minutes.
3. During the Refresh Cycle some smoke and odor may occur. Open a window or use the ventilation fan in the room.

If this does not help, I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging your appliance or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Restore power and try the "Refresh cycle". I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

I removed all the racks from my upper oven (including the side racks) to self-clean and am getting the "remove racks" light. I've cleaned the oven before and never had this happen. The...

There is a button on the top receiver bracket on the left side... when you take the rack support bracket out you will see it. Take a damp sponge and go over that area, pressing the plunger/button in several times. That should do it. Sometimes grease build up can prevent the button from popping out all the way, so the oven thinks that the racks are still in there.

We have an Electrolux Icon oven and cannot get the self cleaner to work. We removed all racks (including side racks) turned it to clean and nothing happened. We shut off the power and turned it back...

There is a small white plastic triangular switch that needs to be in the out position for the oven to recognize that the racks have been taken out. Look at the back left side WITHIN the upper rack support channel. (This is not the small U-shaped piece that can be seen slightly lower on the wall oven.) If the switch is still depressed, with power turned off at the breaker, depress the switch using a small screwdriver. It should pop outwards to the proper "racks out" position. When we had this problem and recycled the power, we again got the signal. Husband switched to a nonconductive tool and repeated the depressing/releasing of the switch while the oven was giving the "remove racks" command. It sensed that all was well and now operates properly. If this does not fix the problem, you may have to replace a board $$$.

Electrolux Icon Oven won't self clean - "Remove Racks" displayed

I was getting the remove rack error until I finally figured out what it wanted me to remove. When you say you removed the rack supports, do you mean just the sliding parts or the whole side metal rack support? At first I thought they were bolted in, but I read somewhere that they come out, too. Upon further investigation, I found the rack supports just slide into the side walls at 4 points. I had to use a little force to pull them out, but they came out and my oven is self-cleaning as I write this. I just thought I would share in case you or others haven't figured it out yet. Now I will just have to see how hard it is to get them back in...

How do you clean self-cleaning Maytag Gemini?

If the unit is a self-cleaner, you should remove everything from the oven (including the racks as the self-clean mode will remove necessary lubrication from the racks if left inside). If the range has a slide lock on top of the oven door, move it from left to right to lock the door, then press the self-clean button. If it does not have a slide lock, it should have a magnetic lock which will engage when the self-clean function is activated. The oven will reach approx. 800 degrees for about 3 hours. When it cools, you should see a white powdery substance in the oven. Wipe this up and you are done.
