I have the same problem all my photos are apparently lost - not much good. I changed my pc and now cannot open the files. I've tried to drag them onto the desktop but they just won't uncompress. I deleted the software from my old machine, but have reinstalled it and reconnected the hard drive to it, but still it won't work. Desperate now.

Hi,
Have you tried moving the files onto your laptop and uncompressing them there?

Did you have Winrar (or any other copressing software) installed on the laptop before you went back to factory settings? Are the compressed files on the external drive in the .zip or .rar (or another) file format?

I am trying to transfer all my photos from my old freecom external HD to a new external HD, but the Freecom keeps switching itself off mid transfer, every few minutes. I'm worried I'm going to

sounds like a faulty drive, afraid without sending it off only way you will be able to get info off is by transfering it bit by bit,
best u use cut files at least u dont have to keep copying same files over and over that way

I have an external freecom 400gb hard drive

The chances are that you would have burnt the Power IC's, so there might not be any damage to the Hard Disk itself. you culd try buying a cheap External Enclosure at the closest IT store or moun the Hard drive on to a desktop computer. you should be able to retrive the data.

Itunes messed up my external hardrive

I doubt that iTunes really moved/reorganized files on your computer.

iTunest may have created its own "Table Of Contents", presenting a "view" of all your files.

Open "My Computer" and open your external hard-drive.
The files should be in "your" order.

Open "My Documents". Open "My Music".
The files should be in "your" order.

If iTunes really did "reorganize" your files, there's no way to "go back", because "Windows System Restore" does not automatically created time-stamped backups of your 'My Documents' folder (nor of any external disk-drive -- where would it put that much data???).

Freecom Hardrive "Malfunction"

Not necessarily your information (data) was lost. The freecom hard drive might have some problems installing itself or some connection issues. I would take it to a data recovery technician. Of course there is always a 50 50 chance that you lost it or not. Wish you the best, Good luck

Freecom 400GB Hard drive not recognized.its a Freecom mobile drive xxs 400gb , my pc just cant recgnize the hard drive

I'll assume your using Windows.
I'll assume it's a USB drive.
I'll assume it is an external drive.
And I'll assume it's formatted as NTFS.

Try using the USB (or FireWire) port for anouther drive to see if that is the problem, if it is then reinstall the driver for the port, through the Computer Managment Concole (assuming yur using windows).

If you formatted the drive as FAT, re-format it as NTFS.
