If you plug in headphones, do you have sound in them?
If so, then the problem is either the built-in speaker or the headphone jack.
If it's the speaker, then you're in for a pretty involved fix involving soldering little tiny wires. Do-able, but not for someone just learning how to use a soldering iron.
If it's the jack, then you might get lucky and fix it by inserting and then removing your headphone's plug.
I've had this style of jack get a bit of dust in it before, and basically think headphones are plugged in even when they're not.
Let me know if you've got sound in headphones, and we can take it from there.

Headphones do work. I removed the back and cleaned the contacts between the PDA and external speaker and that did not help. Have you got anymore suggestions. Thanks for your help so far.
