If you have IR capability make sure you have power to the camera as well as a video feed. There should be a tail at the camera that supports the power and a plug in for the other side.
May be a stupid suggestion but check the slide lock on the cartridge to make sure it is in the record position.
'Night vision' is a term applied too loosely; it originally referred to the original 'starlight' scope that uses a special tube capable of actually amplifying light particles (photons).
More recently, the phrase has been applied to devices capable of 'seeing' into the infra-red spectrum.
Since too much IR sensitivity affects the quality of any digital camera, the sensors are normally designed to be less sensitive to that wavelength.
The fact that none of the specifications mentions the minimum usable light level is bothersome.
Most digital cameras (and camcorders) have 2-3 lux ratings which is not in the category of 'night vision' at all.
proper focus in any camera will see colors ..or else record in b& w and in bad focus... make sure your macro mode is off and norm-auto on... most focus problems are due to dropping or stuck lenses.
night mode might mean your day sense has gone bad... the white balance etc.look for a default setting and turn it on.
