They don't as the vs-2 switching box doesn't support hdmi 1.4, so all the required information isn't passed through it to the tv. I have the same problem with my lifestyle 48!!
It sounds like your signal path from the dvd is going through your TV, rather than through your Bose V30. Either find an audio out port on your TV and route it back to an aux in on the V30, or, preferably, run your DVR and your DVD to the V30, and then from the V30 to your TV.
You can connect an iPod to your Bose V30 using an ipod dock, or simply with a mini-jack (headphone jack) to RCA cable plugged into your V30's Audio-In ports.
Does the Bose have HDMI out? Does the tv have an HDMI socket?
If it does just connect them both together. All inputs i.e. cd, ps3 dvd etc will go into the Bose.
You should be able to connect hdmi from apple tv to bose v30 for picture and sound. You can also run component video to bose and a hdmi out of bose to tv. Just make sure your running hdmi out of bose system to tv if your tv supports hdmi if not use component video cable. Another way which isn't as good of quality is to run fiber optic from apple tv to bose v30 and hdmi straight to tv.
make sure you have connected the rca cables from the 'out' of the TV to either of the video 'in' channels or try the tape 'in' on the bose. hope this helps. which bose are you using?
