The CD that came with the camcorder is not compatible with Windows 7. You have to go to Sony's site and get an update. See if the following link is useful:

I think USB streaming is not supported in Windows 7, so probably iLink is the only option available to you, which anyway is better than USB in terms of less frame drops and capture of DVD quality. The camera has 4 pin ilink port. Check whether you have 6-pin port or 4-pin port or both type of ports on your computers. Laptops generally have one 4-pin port. Desktops can have more than one iLink ports and can have both 6-pin and 4-pin. 4-pin port would look exactly like the one you have on your camcorder. You can find a photo of 6-pin ports at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:IEEE_1394_Firewire_PCI_Expansion_Card_Digon3.jpg

If your both the computers have at least one port with same number of pins, then you can use one cable for transferring to both.

You will need an ilink cable with 4-pin male to connect to camcorder and either 6-pin male (http://cgi.ebay.in/4-Pin-6-Pin-DV-iLink-Cable-/400180203017?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item5d2c994e09)or 4-pin male (http://cgi.ebay.in/4-Pin-4-Pin-Firewire-IEEE1394-DV-iLink-Cable-/400180205113?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item5d2c995639) to connect to the computer side.

Toshiba Satellite- A135-S4477 unable to connect firewire

There are generally three different types for firewire connectors. In the laptops its usually the mini contact(type 2) so is even on the camcorders. on the desktop PCs and MACs however it could be. either type 1 or the type 2. There is a thired type (B) which is less common.
The link shows all the types, male and female:

Samsung SC-D363 won't load to my computer

If you are trying to move video that is stored on TAPE, you need to get a Firewire cable. Using the USB cable, you can only transfer photos and video that is stored on the Memory Stick Pro memory card (user-supplied). The Firewire cable has a standard IEEE-1394 male connector on the computer end and a mini IEEE-1394 male connector on the camera end. If you don't have a Firewire interface on your computer, you will need to get one. Good luck.
