SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT
See Figure 9.
This engine uses a Champion RCJ-6Y or NGK BPMR7A spark plug with 0.05 in.
electrode gap. Use an exact model and replace annually.
That gap is too big.... so looked for another and found it in metric. SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT See Figure 12. This engine uses a Champion RCJ-6Y or equivalent spark plug with 0.63 mm electrode gap. Use an exact model and replace annually.a
Now 0.63mm is 0.025 inches... that's more reasonable.
If you type this question into google you will get several equivalents. You may find questions like this are more quickly answered using google rather than waiting for Fixya answers
Hi, David, Let me know whether u need a new one or u need some more helping information about spark plug L-78.
if u need information then these are two versions of the head for the 91 series motors... one has a 1/2" reach plug thread and the other has a 3/8" reach plug thread.... if you run the wrong plug you'll have some issues so you need to determine which head you have and then find the right plug. That being said... the Auto lite AE901 or equivalent (411) is my preferred plug and you can use that plug in either head as long as you add an extra solid brass/bronze washer when using it on the head with short threads. There are conflicting cross reference charts out there, I have come to know on seeing charts that have a L78C plug crossed to an B7HS, B8HS, B9HS, and B10HS !!! I have run the B8S (the 3/8" reach version) in my older motors, like my MC20's, it is a good match. Generally I have found it easy to find Nippendenso W24FS-U, NGK B8HS, and Auto lite 411 plugs, they all work, but always check your plug after running a short session.
Chrysler Voyager seem function well on Champion spark plugs. I had the same issue and only after buying Genuine Champion Plugs, the car resonded with power
Yes. They are horizontal shaft, and the performance (rpm, power, throttle response) of any horizontal shaft 4-stroke engine is going to be pretty much the same. They also have a governor, which you might want to disable or not, depending on the age of your driver.
Make sure it can breath. Check the airfilter element. If its oil soaked replace it. Sounds like this engine cannot breath. This engine is set ,there are not jets to replace. Champion Plugs are not the problem FIRE IS FIRE . Fresh Gas if it aint less than 30 days old it aint fresh. Todays designer fuel goes stale quickly.
If your mower does not have "OHV", overhead valves. You can use a Champion j19lm spark plug. If you discover you do have overhead valves; A Champion RC12YC, will work.
