I'm needing a driver for my FE-280

It says it is unable to find a camera connected to the USB ports. Any idea where I could find a driver to help this or is it another problem?

The display doesn't turn on when the camera is turned on unless I switch the mode on the dial. The camera turns off when I toggle the zoom.

The problem:
There was no driver installed to read my camera (Olympus FE-280) and Windows could not find a driver and install. I run on Vista Home Basic.

Solution:
I called Microsoft Support. It's a Vista issue and you need to search for a driver to install.
Go to your Device Manager - find the Unknown Device - Properties - Drivers Tab - search your computer for a driver...imput:

C:\windows\system32\Drivers store

Thie should allow to install this driver from the driver store and then plug in the camera and you're good to go. I'm not a total techy, but this is most definately a Microsoft Issue. If you need help, call them at 1-866-234-6020.
They just helped me and just emailed my first pics form the new camera!

I had this same problem, I'm using Vista on my HP laptop and I managed to correct it. Apparently HP like to customize Vista and when connecting some USB device's they don't recognise them as what they should. A USB mass storage device. You will need to connect the camera to the computer, the camera will come on then click the ok button so it selects PC. Wait until it finishes its search click cancel and open device manager, scroll down and below Network Adaptors you should see an expandable tree with an yellow exclamation mark named Portable Device's --> FE-280/X820/C520 you will need to right click on the FE-280/X820/C520 icon and select "Update driver software". Then select "Browse my computer for driver software" then select "Let me pick from a list of device driver's on my computer" Scroll down till you see "Universal serial bus controllers" then select "USB Mass storage device" in the next window. It should all work fine now! If it still doesn't work try selecting "Portable devices" then select "WPD File system device" --> "Microsoft WPD filesystem Volume Driver".
Hope it helps.

Cheers, Mick

SOURCE: I'm needing a driver for my FE-280

I went to Olymbus website to find the driver for the FE-280 Digital camera and it states, no software availble at this time.

They show the camera on the website and I know there is a driver for it, but they are not supplying the consumer with it. Bad choice for Olympus.

I have given you some information and links below:

http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/FE-280%20Instruction%20Manual.pdf

This is the manual for your camera.
Go page 45 at the very bottom. Using a New Card

The FE-280 does not recognize my memory card. What can I do?
First, refer to the xD-Picture Card™ Compatibility Chart to verify that the card is supported in your model. If the card is not supported, return it to the store where you purchased it.
The FE-280 may not recognize non-Olympus brand media or a card that has been formatted on another device, such as a card reader or personal computer. As a general rule, xD-Picture Card media should only be formatted in the camera. Card readers should only be used to copy files from the memory card to an external device.
You may be able to use the card if you format it in the camera.
Warning: Formatting a media card will delete all content on the card.

When I put an xD-Picture Card™ flash memory card into my camera and turn it on, I get a “Card Error” message. What can I do?
This message occurs when the camera is unable to recognize the memory card or when an attempt to format a card fails.
If you see this message after inserting a brand new card, refer to the xD-Picture Card Compatibility Chart to verify that the card is supported in your model. If the card is not supported, return it to the store where you purchased it.
If the card is supported, it may need to be cleaned. Wipe the gold contacts of the card with alcohol using a soft cloth or tissue. When the contacts are dry, insert the card and turn the camera on.
If the Card Error message still appears, remove the card and insert a different supported card into the camera. If the camera reads the second card, then the camera is working properly and the problem lies with the original card.
You may be able to use the card if you format it in the camera.
Warning: Formatting a media card will delete all content on the card.
If you receive this error message after a failed attempt to format the memory card, the card may be defective. For assistance, contact Olympus’ Customer Service and Repair Center using any of the following methods:

My laptop doesnt recognize fe-280 olymous

Unisntall the software that came with the camera and reinstall them. If the computer asks for drivers, insert the cd that came along the camera and install the drivers. Alternately, you can use your laptop's card reader port to transfer pictures. Just take out the memory card from the cam and put it in the card reader slot. Have any questions, write back.

I lost driver cd ,i need drivers & software

Hi,

There are no drivers needed for the Olympus FE-190. Once connected through its USB, the computer will treat it as a USB mass storage device similar to a removable /flash drive.

If for some reason the PC won't recognize the camera, it is probably a problem with the USB cord, the USB port or the memory of the camera.

Alternately, you can use a memory card reader and slip in the memory card of the camera to gain access to the content/pictures.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
