I think I may have permanently damaged my machine by connecting an over powerful charger to it! Can anyone tell me if I might be able to replace a component to repair it?

The orange backlight still comes on with the word "ZOOM", but nothing else seems to be working :(

In most cases there could be a protector in the input section of the DC and this would prevent cross polarity or excess voltage. However if your voltage had exceeded the threshold set within , it could have damaged the IC's. In this case it will be wise to inspect the PCB and check for the damage and if your lucky, it could be only a burnt thermal resistor. Good Luck.,

Acer 4720Z not charging, port is not damaged neither pin

Check if the led indicator is on, when you connect your adapter to power outlet. It may simply be loose connection between the adapter and connecting cord.

If possible, borrow adapter of same make and model from someone (maybe a friend who owns the same laptop) to ensure, that the port is not damaged.

If the port is all good, I suggest you get your adapter replaced, as repairing it is not worth the hassle.

My Toshiba laptop will not turn on. When I press the the power button the red battery light flashes. The ac power plug bracket had been broke and I noticed the battery was not charging well. After this I...

It's very possible that there is a short in the connection where the adapter actually goes into the laptop. This could certainly cause the heat, as well as the lack of charge/power to the machine. It could also be dangerous if it gets too hot (a friend actually had his laptop ignite into flames from a similar issue, and I had an HP that melted the plastic around the power cord insert.) However, the problem could be with the battery itself or the cord/adapter. As a short term solution, you might jiggle the power cord at the connection to see if that makes your flashing red light stop (with mine, the contacts and the insulation were both worn, causing contact where it shouldn't have been - hence the short and heat, while denying contact where it should have been - thus the lack of power.) If you find a position that works, some tape could hold it in place until you can get a more permanent solution. If you have access to another machine that can use the same power cord (and that you know works), you might test your cord on that machine to see if the problem is in the cord or the actual laptop - Best Buy or Geek Squad can also do this if you don't have access to such a machine. If the problem is the cord, you should be able to find a new one on ebay or at a tech website. If the problem is determined to be in the machine, it could be either the battery itself or the connection point. The battery is certainly easier to replace, but for some laptops, you can find replacement connection points (this obviously requires taking the machine apart), again on ebay or similar, or Geek Squad should certainly be able to do it if you are squeemish about messing with the inner workings of a laptop. However, you will want to start by figuring out where the problem is (or isn't) per the above.

Touchscreen not working properly

I agree. I'm on my 2nd G1 right now because my first one had touch screen problems. But the problems only started after I started using a different charger (it's been so long I can't remember whether it was just my blackberry mini usb charger, or whether I charged it from my computer; I think it was the computer). However, once it started spazing out it wouldn't stop, it was permanently damaged. So if your touch screen seems a bit finiky after charging with an odd power source, Stop ASAP or you risk permanent damage

Compaq Presario V3000 charger stopped working and now buzzes

Unfortunately there are no perfect cables, and especially in case of a laptop, when you move it around a lot, roll the cable for travel etc. it gets bent a lot, especially in the place where the elastic cable goes into the hard plug or into the charger case. The conductors inside and the inner insulation finally break, giving at first intermittent connection (what you experienced before), and finally short-circuits the cable, resulting in charger damage.

You should be fine just replacing the charger, unless all this wiggling around didn't break the laptop power socket.

When looking for a replacement charger, note the voltage of the original (it should be exactly the same in the new one), the maximum current amperage (this should be same or - better - higher than original), and the size of plug.

Good luck :)

It's on but not charge

If the light on the adapter was flashing, I would certainly replace it first. You can buy recertified chargers from each computer manufacturer and save $$.

I would also check where the cord from the charger plugs into the laptop just to make sure nothing had gotten inside the jack plugin area and may be preventing it from seating correctly.

MY STREET PILOT C330 IS NOT CHARGING.

The battery has probably drained to the point of being "empty", such that it's putting an enormous "load" on the incoming power from your power adapter. For all intents and purposes, it's sucking up so much of the incoming power from your power cable, your Garmin thinks there's little, if any, power available. That's because the drained battery is acting almost like a "short circuit", in electrical terminology. Try leaving the unit plugged into the charger for a day or two or three; if the battery hasn't been permanently damaged, it may come back to life enough fully, or at least enough to not act like a "short" across the incoming power power.

Hi, i got a hp compaq mx7400, i dont hame the charger so i want to open the laptop and connect direct a different adapter to the chargig block. i dont know which pin is positive and negative

You are in a pay zone ?There are ways, but if you are not a trained TEC for this It could cost you more than it would for a charger? I wouldn't advise anyone to chance grounding this part. This is something everyone says so and so does it? Do you think they will cry, with you when you ruin the harddrive?
There are so many things you can mess up with this act of pennywise, pound foolish. How much do you want for the PC before you fix it? There are other manufacturers; that make the same connection for their PC's.Some of them have universal connections? I know of at least two other people that thought
This is easy? Right before they purchased a new harddrive?I won't tell you their names, but I can tell
you what size their harddrives are?I would not tell you, this to buy your machine?Although a bargain
is a bargain.Sometimes you can buy you a charger used ,out of your local paper.Good luck !
