It uses an air bell to turn the depth of water into air pressure, then a pressure switch senses this pressure.

Down inside the wash tank, you'll see the air bell. Usually grey, a flattened rounded rectangle tapering wider towards its lower end, stuck to the side of the tank.
Take the panel off the machine, and on the dry side of the tank you'll see a little hose leading away from the bell towards the pressure switch.

Four of the more common failures....
1) Water valve stuck open. It'll keep filling even with the electricity turned off.
2) Air bell leaking. Crumbling plastic bits not unknown, this machine could be 15 years old by now.
3) Pressure switch stuck. Blowing into the switch you should hear a 'click'.
4) Most common - a build up of fat in the top of the air bell, blocking the sensing tube. With the machine empty of water, take the pipe off at the pressure switch end, and blow into it. This should dislodge any fat/debris. In extremis, slacken the nut holding the air bell to the tank, rotate the bell upright and give it a good wash out.

Where do I troubleshot? Kenmore 80 Series Hvy Dty Washer. Water will not shut off filling drum on any water level. Also no selection of wash cycle will work. Only rinse and spin. It continues to fi

Ok, there is a tube running from the fill switch to the tub, as water fills the tub the air in this tube will activate the switch. If there is a hole in this tube the switch will not stop the water. I fill the tub about 1/4 full, take the tube off the switch and blow through the tube, If you hear air escaping patch the hole or replace the tube.

Takes half an hour to fill before it will start, then have to manually fill for it to drain

more then likely it is the fill solenoid. either there is dirt in it or the coil is weak.

Fagor dishwasher overflow

Consider that the problem may not be the float as mentioned. Leaking can be as simple as the door seals, or misalignment. If someone slams the door or runs into the door from the side, the normal alignment can be out of adjustment. Check the locking tab under the counter and see it that was moved and reset it. Seems you already fussed with the system and it did not solve the problem.

THe dishwasher is not draining and runs out onto the floor. What should we do?

Drain is plugged between the sink and dishwasher. It has to be unclogged. best advice call a plumber. other tricks fill up the sink with water and use a plunger to pull the sludge through.
