Before Gem removal, You need to upload gem configuration into diagnostic tool, when new gem is in place, download configuration from diagnostic tool into new gem. According to my info, it's not a simple remove/replace. Just between you and me, I don't have those type diagnostic tools. I'd take it to the shop. Just my opinion.

The Gem module IS the under dash fuse panel. Not to hard to replace. But it has to be programmed to the vehicle. Before you go replacing it and spending money to have it programmed at a dealership. What is it not doing? How do you know?

I put my ford excursioninto 4 wheel drive and now it won't come out. It has the turnswitch control located on the dash

many things could affect it. there is an actuator on the transfer case. check to see that you have 12 volts to the big two prong connector when you select 2 or 4 wd. if you don't it could be the relays under the hood. they are called clockwise counter clockwise relays. it could also be the GEM/ 4x4 control module. in a 2000 it is mounted behind the fuse box, left side of dashboard. I just went throught his with mine. it was the GEM.

They are on the keyless entry module. Some are located near the inside fuse box under the steering column. Others are located in the rear kick -panel where the jack is.

Gearshift locked, no power windows, interior lights, wipers

For starters, do you have brake lamps? The shift lockout is controlled by the brake switch. As far as the others, yes it could be the GEM (generic electronic module) some of these vehicles have water intrusion problems that leat into the fusebox and GEM which is located on the back of the fuse box. If you can look at the fuse box inside the vehicle and if you can see the back, look for corrosion which is a sign of water.
