How can attach external speakers with RCA plugs or a mini-plug? Is the digital audio output the only connection for audio output? (The model is TC-P50G25)

If the digital audio output is the only output, can I get some sort of gizmo that will convert it to RCA or a mini-plug?

Well isn't this just a find how do you do!!
It appears that on this set there is no headset or other audio connection other then the optical?

It appears the only way to a traditional RCA audio jack is via a special adapter. See image. Inexpensive not sure of the quality of audio.

The best way would be to purchase a sourround sound speaker amp system with 5 speakers plus base woofer. These surround sound systems are usually have optical connected and for best results this would be my first choice.

Some have wireless back speakers to allow for easier installation.

This is an inexpensive surround sound speaker system that should connect to your Panasonic TV optical output. Very available and I wanted to give you at least one option. Wires etc are a mess but the surround sound can be amazing. I would check all the reviews if you decide to go with this type of audio system. They can be confusing and in your case you need to have input control of volume with optical.

The following link is the manual for this particular Home theater System.

These audio systems can be very expensive. Less expenesive sorround can still provide great listening results.

Hope this helps?

Thank you - I found an adapter on Amazon like the one you shared. About $16 including a cable for the TV to the converter; the reviews were pretty good.

I don't have space for a surround sound system in either my living room or my wallet, so I'll go with the less expensive solution.

Thanks so much - it was a relief to know that there was an inexpensive gizmo that would solve the problem.

How do i connect hammacher wireless speakers to a toshiba smart tv

Model of both the TV and speakers, please. For example, without the model of the TV how is anyone supposed to know which inputs/outputs it has?

Edit: Dan, Thanks for providing the model numbers. I was hoping the solution would be something simple like switching the audio from internal to external speakers in the TV settings. However, when I looked at the owner's manual http://support.toshiba.ca/support/ceg/manuals/LEDTV/40-50L3400UC_E.pdf it appears that the rca jacks you tried on the back of the TV are inputs for old VCRs, DVD players etc. rather than an output which would be needed to send an audio signal to your speakers. In this case you will need to use the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT on the back on the TV. In order to use this you will need to purchase an Optical Digital Toslink Coaxial to Analog RCA converter. Make sure it uses a larger Toslink connector and not a mini one. The Toslink cable will plug into the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT on the back of your TV and then be plugged into the converter device. Your white and red RCA cables will go between the converter and your speaker transmitter unit. In addition the converter will have a power adapter that needs to be plugged into a wall outlet. There may need to be some audio settings changed in the TV menu to get this to function properly. It's best to buy from a retailer with a good return policy just in case it doesn't work.
Hope this helps.

How to plug my external speakers to my viera tv

This television only outputs digital audio called PCM / Dolby Digital, Fiber Optic so you may need an amplifier that has a digital in port (if the speakers are rca red and white cable plugs then the amplifier needs rca output ports). Then you would need to connect the amplifier to the speakers
. Unless the speakers have a digital in port which I am unsure on ,. The digital out audio port on your tv uses a fibre optic digital audio cable..
page 13 of the user manual shows this digital output port.

I HAVE A SANYO LCD TV dp42d24. wANT TO ENHANCE SOUND WITH EXTERNAL SPEAKERS. THE RED/WHITE ON THE TV BACK SAYS audio input. i WANT AUDIO OUTPUT

There's probably a digital audio output you can use if you have a digital receiver. If you don't have a digital receiver you can take the audio out from the cable box or satellite box. Since I have an old analog receiver it's the way I connect my equipment. I use a hdmi cable for the TV so it frees up the rca output jacks on my cable box. Works great.

Sound

Your TV has a pair of analog RCA Audio Outputs on the back of the set. They are the red and white, female, round outputs and should be labelled as Audio Out. If you have a surround receiver or stereo that accepts this type of input (most do), then you would purchase a stereo RCA audio cable that has the red and white male ends on both ends of the cable and plug them in to the appropriate stereo RCA left and right channel audio inputs on your receiver and the aforementioned outputs on your TV. The same is true if you have a pair of self-powered computer speakers (or similar). If your external speakers or audio systems don't have the RCA inputs, you may need to get an adapter to convert the RCA output to stereo mini-jack (or similar) to match the appropriate input on your external speakers. Does that make sense?

Cant figure out how to hook them up

Two audio input cables are supplied with the speakers. If your computer has a stereo mini jack, use the cable with a stereo mini plug. Otherwise, use the cable with RCA plugs on both ends. Match the colors on the connectors to the colors on the jacks, red to red and white to white.
The speaker cable is already attached at one end to the accessory speaker. Plug the other end into the TO ACCESSORY SPEAKER jack on the powered speaker.
1. Connect one end of the audio input cable to AUDIO INPUTS A. 2. Connect the other end to your computer's AUDIO OUTPUT jack. We recommend using LINE OUT if your computer sound card offers more than one option. 3. To connect a separate CD-ROM, or another source, repeat steps 1 and 2 using AUDIO INPUTS B.
You must connect the AC power pack to operate the speakers. 1. Plug its cable end into the power jack on the powered speaker. 2. Plug the power pack blades into the wall outlet. 3. Turn on your computer sound source or external sound source.

How do I connect external speakers

    Connecting Full-Size Speakers
  1. Step 1 Insert the red and white plugs on a set of RCA audio cables into the right and left audio "OUT" jacks on the back of the TV.
  2. Step 2 Connect the other ends of the cables to a free pair of audio "IN" jacks on the amplifier.
  3. Step 3 Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from the speaker wires, and connect a pair of wires to the left and right terminals on the back of each speaker using the red wire for the right audio connection and the other wire for the left.
  4. Step 4 Connect the other ends of the speaker wires to a pair of stereo speaker terminals on the back of the amplifier. The wires attach by raising spring-loaded clips on the back of the amp to reveal a hole for inserting each wire.
  5. Step 5 Set the amplifier selector to the set of audio jacks connected to the TV to enjoy stereo sound from the television.
  6. Connecting Self-Powered Speakers
  7. Step 1 Insert the RCA plugs on the Y adapter into the TV's Audio "OUT" jacks.
  8. Step 2 Connect the mini-plug on the wire attached to the right-hand self-powered speaker to the mini-plug jack on the Y adapter.
  9. Step 3 Plug in the audio cable and mini-plug from the left-hand speaker into the Audio "OUT" jack on the back of the right-hand speaker.
  10. Step 4 Connect the AC adapter to the power jack on the back of the right-hand speaker, then plug the adapter into an electrical outlet.
  11. Step 5 Switch on the external speakers and adjust the volume.

I want to connect 2 speakers(left and right) to lcd.how can i?

Hi,
Please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Connect the two RCA plugs on the Y adapter to the right and left Audio Out jacks on the back of the LCD TV.
Step 2: Insert the mini-plug on the cable attached to the right-channel PC speaker into the mini-plug jack on the Y adapter.
Step 3:Connect the mini-plug on the audio cable attached to the left-channel PC speaker to the mini-plug jack on the back of the right-channel speaker. This completes the PC speaker connections to each other and to the television. The TV sends an audio signal to the right PC speaker, which separates the signal and sends the left-channel stereo information to the other PC speaker.
Step 4:Connect the AC power plug to the back of the right-channel speaker and plug the other end into an electrical outlet.
Step 5:Switch on the speakers and the television to enjoy audio from both the TV's built-in speakers and the external pair of PC speakers.
