Had the same issue and was able to resolve it by going to HP Compaq's websibe (for you it would be eMachine) and they provided the following information & i uninstalled the driver in device manager after running the below fix, scan the system for new hardware and the DVD drive appeared with the correct driver. hope this helps. good luck.

------------------------------------------
To resolve this issue, remove upper and lower limits from the registry. Upper and lower limits are points of your computer's registry that control the drivers for your specific device—in this case, the optical drive. Remove upper and lower limits from the registry using the Microsoft Fix this problem link below: optiarc dvd rw ad-7561a ata device - c01733077.jpg If Microsoft's automatic fix does not resolve the issue, try using the other methods listed in this document to troubleshoot the issue.

Hi!

The code 10 error indicates a driver problem. To resolve this, try the steps below.

1.
Go to Device Manager (Control Panel > System > Device Manager) and uninstall the device driver first. Please reboot the computer. Windows should automatically install the best driver for your device.

2.
If you still have the same error message, you must install the specific driver for your device. It can be found on the CD that came with it. Run the setup CD of your device and follow the instructions during the Setup Wizard.

3.
You can manually install the driver. Go to Device Manager again, look for Disk Drives. Right-click your device with the Code 10 problem then click on Update Driver/Software. Then choose specifically the driver for Vista which you can find/browse on the CD.

If you don't have the Setup CD that came with it, you can download the driver HERE

Optiarc dvd rw ad-7561a ata device unplugged

Check BIOS for Optical drive. Press F key noted on boot screen to enter. If it's not noted there, you need to check physical connections. Might just need to be re-seated with power disconnected. Re-check BIOS and make sure to save before exiting.

If it is noted in BIOS and Windows still fails to see the drive. Run a thorough virus scan, then boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during startup. Go to Device Manager, and select Show Hidden devices under the View tab. Delete all drives and reboot. Windows should say new hardware found and install.

This should take care of the problem if there is nothing wrong with the drive. Replace or seek professional support is not, and good luck

My optical device needs drivers

Optical drives don't need drivers, they all use the same generic driver that comes with Windows.

Recommended resolutions

Here are some things that you can try to resolve this problem.

Update the driver

In the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to update the driver.

You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.

From your description I understand that the DVD drive is not working and you have code 39 error in device manager.

Windows vista updated and now my optiarc dvd rw drive won't work

You will have to uninstall the drive and reinstall again. I think the drivers for the drive is not properly installed. But if all this does not work, then I think you will have to do a system restore.

Best wishes

Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561A This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I beleive that this code is being displayed under the Device Status in the Properties window of the DVD Drive in Device Manager.
If it is so, you need to do some modifications with the Registry to resolve the issue and I am sure that the issue will be resolved with this.
However, since you had not specified the Operating System which is installed in the Notebook is Vista or XP.
However, I am providing the links which includes the steps for both Vista and XP to edit the registry to resolve the issue with Error Code 10 with the DVD Drive in your Notebook.
Removing Upper and Lower Filter in XP :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

You need to perform the steps listed under Advanced Troubleshooting to delete the Upper and Lower filters.

Removing Upper and Lower Filter in Vista :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us
You need to perform the steps listed under Resolution in the link above.
You may not find both the Upper and Lower filters according to the instructions links provided above.
Delete the ones among the Upper filter or Lower filter or both which you find in the locations mentioned.
This should solve the issue...
