Hi Doug, you already diagnosed your set when you said it flickered like a dying light bulb, your LED backlights have failed and need replacing, you should be able to get parts from shopjimmy, stay away from ebay for parts

Without getting all technical your LED backlights are bad, the part of unhooking one ribbon cable and not having the repeated cycle would be normal in this model set.

Do the flashlight test and if you see a faint picture the backlights are not working replace either the led backlights or T-con board, If no picture replace the main board.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board . In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

The symptoms you described would indicate the backlights are not working.

The 2 main reasons are the backlight inverter board has gone or the backlights have blown!

Since you have replaced the inverter board with a new working one then this would point towards the LED backlights.
