If you don't wish to use the USB cable, you can always transfer files wirelessly between your Nexus and PC via the cloud. Since you already have a gmail account, use your Google Drive account to store files and access them by both your PC and Nexus 7. If you haven't set up your Google Drive account, here's how: Google Drive Cloud Storage File Backup for Photos Docs More
Tap "Install" on the next screen to confirm. When Flash is installed, head into your phone's stock browser (again, Google Chrome won't support your newly-installed Flash apk). On Android 3.0 or later, go to Menu (three dots next to the address bar on some phones) > Settings > Advanced > Enable plug-ins.
I don't have a nexus but have had a similar problem with a cellphone. If you go into the settings you should look for a link to change the connection type, i.e. some products will connect as a storage media device allowing you to browse files or as a modem to allow you to share the 3G connection or in propriety mode where it will connect as a Nexus to the bundled software. With the Blackberry Playbook you have to install specific drivers stored on the Playbook before it is even recognised correctly. Please check if you have installed the drivers correctly. They might come on a CD boxed with the Nexus or if you connect the Nexus you'll find a new drive and it will contain an exe to install drivers so the PC can recognise it. The later was the case with the Playbook. Alternatively try downloading new drivers from the support page for your particular Nexus model. Web downloads are almost always the latest version of drivers and the one shipped with your Nexus may not be properly compatible or flawed. Hope this helps.
