When I use my vacuum, it spits dirt/ dust back at me rather than actually vacuuming it. How do I fix this?

My loveless cougar ash vacuum just started to blow dust from the top where the motor is,can I take it apart and clean the motor? I must have gotten ash in the motor when I cleaned the filters

A powerful vac motor needs lots of air throughput to keep it cool. Some vac motors have a separate air intake and exhaust for cooling air but the majority rely on the same air that passes through the cleaner and sucks up the ash or dirt. These rely on effective filters to keep damaging ash or dirt out of the motor.

While a blocked filter reduces suction and cuts the flow of cooling air, a displaced filter allows ash or dirt into the motor and if early action isn't taken to remedy the situation by cleaning the motor, the life of the motor will be seriously reduced.

The most effective method of motor cleaning after dismantling is by a jet of compressed air...

Take the filters out and turn the vacuum on, if it will stay running without the filters in it you need to replace the filters. Filters should be replaced every few months. Clogged filters still pick up some dirt but miss a lot plus it causes the motor to run hot which will cause damage to the motor reducing it's life.

My oreck magnesium keeps turning off. Blue. Light keeps blinking

THE PROBLEM SEAMS TO BE WITH THE THICKNESS OF THE CARPET AND THE PAD-ALL VACUUMS NEED TO BE ABLE TO BREATHE IF THE PAD AND THE CARPET ARE THICK THE VACUUM WILL PULL ITSELF TOWARD THE FLOOR SLOW DOWN THE BRUSHROLL ENOUGH TO TRIGGER THE AUTO SHUTDOWN ON THE MAGNESIUM BECAUSE THE VACUUM CANT BREATHE. TAKE IT TO YOUR LOCAL ORECK AND THEY CAN PUT A FEW HOLES IN YOUR SOLEPLATE AND THIS WILL TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE.

Hand vacuum doesn't charge

If the plug in charger works, the batteries are boiled out and need replacement.

They should not be left on charger all the time. Just charge them for 10 hours and use them until the performance has dropped off, then and only then put it back on charge for 10 hours.

I have a new (3 weeks) Holmes air purifier. After a week of sitting on my bedtable, I noticed black sooty powder on my bed table and a week later, I found the same powder on the wall. It has ruined my...

Actually, your purifier is working as it should. The black soot is due to the negatives ions which attach themselves to the smoke/dust/dirt particles in the room and make them drop to floor. If you don't smoke it won't be much of a problem. Some minor residue will be found in and around the unit but this comes about because the negative ions make dust and other particulates fall to the floor. A quick wipe or vacuum easily eliminates this problem. Besides, I would rather have them on the floor than floating around in the air, wouldn't you?

Help! My air ilter quit!

I bought one a year ago and never thought it work well in cleaning the air. I get more dust on my counters than collects in the pure-ion. I recently got a letter from an attorney saying they are settling a class action suit on these purifiers because the are not effective. I called brookstone and they said they will refund my money because of the law suit. Good luck.

Stopped filtering dust...

I just got one from some one that wash trashing it because it quit. The problem with this one was a bad power regulating transistor. $1.69 at Radio Shack. I also found that the board that supplies the voltage to the grid had several bad solder joints on it. Take the bottom/stand off: four screws. Take the next 4 screws you see out then the bottom should come off. The small board next to the motor energizes the grids. The transistor on that board needed to be re solderd. Also the flimsy black wire was loose too. Hope this helps.
