My Maytag front load washer , powers up and lets me change the settings, but when I press the start button , it beeps and displays d5 and wont start??

Sounds like control board is defective

PF is Power Fail, means the Power was cut off. PF Power failure Power to the machine has been lost during the last cycle. This may occur on start up of a new machine due to factory testing.

D5 means blocked coin 1 or coin drop control circuit failure, coin recognition and price display disabled while blockage persists.

If your washer doesn't seem to work at all, check these:

No power
Lid switch
No power Check to see whether power is getting to the washing machine. Is it plugged in? Has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped?

Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse.

d5 - door is open when washer is running.
or the door switch is bad.

Try unplugging the unit for an hour allowing the microprocessor to reset. Plug it back in and use as normal. Let me know if this helps.

first lets start simple unplug the machine and leave unpluged for 1 min. replug back, see if this solves the problem.

does it say do in the display as if the door is open??

Trying unplugging for 20 minutes maybe you can reset it.
