Hi when i plug the device into my Iphone 5 it charges straight away no problem. However on the tuning part of the device the light is barley showing.

if you have your device hooked up to it, i believe it means it is charging, as i understand it this particular charger can charge multiple devices, the older models of this unti had defects and needed to be fixed, normally if everything is charged, the blinking light would go away and a solid light would appear.

1. • 1How to Pair a Bluetooth Device With an iPhone On the iPhone, click on the "Settings" icon. It looks like a gear. Then press on the "General" button. Select "Bluetooth" and then "Turn Bluetooth On." The phone is now ready to be connected to the Bluetooth device.
     
   • 2 Connect the iPhone Bluetooth travel cable that comes with the iPhone-approved Bluetooth device into the USB 2.0 port on the computer. Do not plug it into the USB port on the keyboard.

   • 4 Wait while the computer loads to recognize there is something plugged into it. Either a screen will pop up or an icon will appear on the desktop to let you know that the computer is recognizing there is a iPhone plugged into it.
     
   • 5 Let the Bluetooth device charge with the iPhone for about one hour. You can tell when the device is fully charged by viewing the status light on the device. It will be an amber color until it charges completely. Once the charge completes, it will turn green.
     
   • 6 Remove the Bluetooth device and the iPhone from the cable that is plugged into the computer's USB port. Push the button on the top of the Bluetooth device. This allows the calls to now go through the Bluetooth device instead of straight to the iPhone.

check for liquid ingress, and replace the charging connector it will fix the problem

If your iPhone is not charging when you plug it into a wall charger or into you computer's usb port, this is a usb connectivity issue and the connection just needs to be reset. All that needs to be done is plug the iPhone's cable into the phone but don't plug into the computer yet. Hold the phone's select button (the round button with the square) down for about 30 seconds or until the apple appears on the screen. your phone will reload and reset the connection and the computer should recognize the device. Allow the phone to charge for at least 30 minutes before unplugging.

If you have a password lock on your phone and it is turned on then the computer won't recognise the phone. It will only show in My Computer if this is turned off.

What do you mean by "the hold button wouldn't go off"? Was the orange light still on? Either way, you should try restarting your iPod if you haven't done so already.
