There is probably a crossed cord in the rewinder. I am not sure but if you can get into the rewinder you can free up the cord it should go, hope this helps. Chris
It is either your power cable, cable rewind mechanism or your motor.
Try switching it on, and wiggling the lead near the plug and see if it fires up. If it does, remove the moulded plug and fit a standard plug.
If not, likely suspect is the motor or the cable rewind mechanism. Neither are an amateur job. If you are in the UK, you could send it to Manchester Dyson for either to be fixed. Carriage will cost you about £10 each way. A motor replacement will cost around £65 and a cable rewind mechanism about £45-£50.
it is possible that the cord rewinder has become broken inside the unit. It is a common problem with this and other models by Miele.
There IS a fix to the cord rewind, unless your model falls within the 5 year warranty. In which case contact your nearest Miele dealer for a replacement to the cord rewinder.
Fritz , thanks please confirm... there are likely more than 2 leads from the motor?? I have not seen or worked on the Tristar CXL as it is very new.You will have a high low function but:
Should the power head function at both speeds or only hi speed
How many connectors pulled apart ?
Are the leads fastened onto the motor or are there push on male terminals on a terminal bar beside the motor with leads running off a shroud. How many leads are on the switch itself.... Either way the wiring pattern will be the same, for all components it will just be a matter of which half of the motor harness connects in which terminal, if you wire it in reverse your speed switch should just function backward. The question is, is there a simple rocker switch for hi low or is there a circuit board type with a speed control on a mini board. If your power head functions at both speeds it will connect from the cord or rewind, prior to the speed switch. If it should only run on hi speed it will be tied into the hi speed half of the two speed switch. So leaving your green ground out your pattern would be: black to 1 side of rewind to main switch to motor and head together and then remaining back to opposite side of rewind to cord. Please confirm a bit more info as posted...
I had the same problem - the power cord for my Hoover Elite Upright (U5507900) was stuck a few inches out and wouldn't go any further. But when I unscrewed the rewinding mechanism, the cord had clearly gotten twisted and partly buried under itself so after some work I was able to free it. Now it seems to be working fine, at least for the moment. Note that I had to use small screwdrivers to unscrew the cord rewinding compartment, like the kind of screwdrivers you use for computer repair. HTH!
May have to replace the cord reel asm. It will have to be taken out and inspected, if can't see a problem, then replace it. If this is less then one year old, then it is still under warranty and should be taken to a warranty shop along with proof of purchase.
