Broken turntable i was making popcorn an suddenly the microwave glass tray broke, where can i find a replacement, my microwve is an emerson model:mw8992sB

    The glass turntable on my emerson mw8992sb also broke while I was cooking popcorn. Is this a problem that occurs with other microwaves or a common problem for this model? Is is more economical to order a turntable or buy a new microwave?

    My glass tray also broke making popcorn in the Emerson MW8992SB and need a replacement tray. I see that this seems to be a common problem with this model.

I've looked at a lot of websites and it seems that the Cooking tray is no longer available. The part has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer. I found a few websites that carry glass trays that look like like but I don't know if they will be an exact fit.

You can contact Emerson at their number in the manual for a replacement.

I always suggest that people place food (especially popcorn) off-center on the tray (not in the middle) because the heating is better, plus the extreme heat is not always applied to the same spot in the tray each time.

Food placed in the middle will not cook as evenly.

Emerson red 900 watt microwave glass turntable
Replacement trays cost around $30.00. The cheapest I found was on Ebay for $28.00. By the time you pay for shipping you can almost buy a new appliance. Also take care that you find one for your model, you can't always tell by looking if it is going to fit.

Try your local Goodwill or other thrift store for a used one.

You can order a turntable of off eBay and as for the other tais a trial and error thing you will just have to mess with it microwaves vary

Little plastic ring with wheels broke in several places
the purpose of the turntable is to more evenly cook the food. it shouldnt effect the mics ability to cook, just might take a little longer to thoroughly cook food

Microwave Turntable
Microwave popcorn gets VERY hot while cooking. Even though the turntable is made of temepred glass, intense heat applied in the same spot over and over can weaken the molecular structure of the glass. After so many expansions and contractions, it will crack because fatigue will cause some molecules to expand less than others, creating stress. This is yet another reason I recommend to my customers that they place the food off-center on the tray - not in the center. The oven also heats better when the food is off-center because the food is more thoroughly exposed to the microwave energy. Until you get a new tray, the photo below can help you.

Emerson microwave Glass turntable replacement
The part number was shown as M0S0885 (or MOS0885) but it is listed as "no longer available". In some cases, two microwave-safe plates can serve as a makeshift replacement for a missing tray. You have to find a saucer that fits securely on your turntable support, though. I've attached a photo. One last option would be a Nordicware or Rubbermaid or similar wind-up carousel. Wal-Mart had them when I checked a few months ago, and you can find them on Google's Froogle site at http://froogle.google.com by searching for the key words: wind-up turntable.
