My sewing machine seized up on me, what can I do to make it work right again?

It sewed good for a few minutes and then seized up. I cant turn the manual wheel. I tried to oil it and look inside for anything that might be jamming it, I found nothing. Could a bad needle be the problem?

Probably not a needle as they just bend or break
the main fault for jamming the machine is cotton that wraps around the shaft behind the bobbin carrier
basically it needs to be checked over by a service mechanic so there may be a seized bearing on a shaft

Testimonial: "Thankyou for your advice. I will check the bobbin for lint or old threads. If that don,t work I will take it to a shop and have it looked at. Thanks again."

My sewing machine has stopped working, it was working ok , just a bit noisier than usual but now the needle wont move at all, even if i try to turn the wheel by hand

the machine may need oiling, check in your sewing machine manual to see about oiling it, it's also possible that the machine could have a damaged or broken part inside,,

Machine will not sew fast

Have you performed any recent cleaning and oiling? If not, that is probably the basis of your problem. The machine is seizing because the lubrication has dried and is preventing the parts from moving.

Consult your owner's manual, use ONLY fresh good quality sewing machine oil and apply 1-2 drops each place as instructed in the manual.

If your machine is mechanical, you can open the top and bobbin area, gently hand rotate the handwheel toward you, and watch where metal rubs on metal and apply 1-2 drops of oil each place. Do NOT oil plastic, belts, or decorator stitch cams. Then SLOWLY run your machine to get the oil distributed. It should loosen up after the machine has run for a few minutes.

You should oil the hook/shuttle every time you install a new bobbin, do a complete cleaning and oiling every 40 hours of sewing time or (if the machine is in storage) every 6 months.

Stich selector won't turn

It could need lubrication. Try using WD-40 wait a few minutes then gently try to move the stitch selector back and forth, try not to force it. If it starts to move use a bit more WD-40 and try moving it again. If it works then use a good grade of sewing machine oil and be sure to clean everything up. Dirt is a big factor in sewing machines.

Good luck,

New 9960 sewing machine keeps jamming

try a new needle--the correct one for the fabric and thread
make sure the top thread has not come off the thread take up lever
rethread the machine top and bobbin-- using every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case
if these suggestions don't help, then taking the machine to be checked would be a good idea.
