When powering on the tv hangs up often times and doesn't get through the startup procedures. after a minute or two it aborts and begins the startup from the beginning. Sometimes it starts no problem, sometimes it takes half a dozen attempts to start, and other times it can take dozens of times until it can get through without freezing 40 or 50 minutes. The problem is certainly getting worse the last couple weeks.
Hi Tom,
This is becoming a theme with Samsung TV's, Samsung have extended warranty cover for some customers with this problem, have a look at this post for more info and the link to Samsung:

You are likely to have a module bad....part number BN94-00864A and if you take it out (unpluggs) you should inspect it for capacitors that may be domed or pooched up at the top. If so they should be replaced first before getting the module as the capacitors are about $1.00 each. Do a search for Samsung parts online if you need the module and call them toll free

I have a solution. My Samsung plasma had the same problem with the bottom half of the screen being black. Follow these directions and it will not cost you a dime, just some time. I took the back panel of the tv. I found the lower buffer board on the left hand side. I disconnect all the ribbon cables. Use an air cleaner to spray out any dust on the ribbon connection and the board. I connect the ribbons back to the board. My plasma is now as good as new. If you have issue with the top portion, do the same with the upper buffer board. I was going to buy a new tv but I'm glad I gave this a shot first. It's been almost a month and it's still working fine. Hope this helps and hope it saves you some money.

I would check out the power supply module for bad caps with bulging tops. Check DC voltages at the output connectors, you should have 5, 12, 24V.
Testimonial: "This seems to be a common fault on these tv's. I probably wont attempt to fix myself even though the warranty has ran out. Thanx "
