Sony str-av570 makes clicking noise when shut off for a while. when turned on a flashing p in the display shows up. I hear clicking noise and nothing works. When i unplug the receiver for a while and plug it back in, it works fine. So long as i keep the receiver on there is no problem.
Unplugging it for a minute and hitting it on the right side seems to work to fix the issue... good grief, man I though my amp was broken
The answer is here-

check speaker wire connections, or turn down volume and power up...
P means protection. the issue was caused by bad cold solder joint or some thing like that. No easy way to fix it.

I friend is having the same problem with the same receiver.
Did you ever find out what the flashing p light means?
I have had the same problem with my SONY STR-AV570 and the problem is very intermitant. When it occurs I have found that a slight 'tap" to the right hand side of the case is the fix. Would like to know what the electrical solution is though.

My receiver is not working and there is a flashing red "P" in the display when I turn it on... don't know what it means...
The receiver is a sony STR AV570.. cannot find the instruction manual
Same problem here! We recently bought a new TV and the installers hooked the TV's sound thru the receiver. When the clicking happens, the light about the "surround" button also blinks. I've found that if I turn the receiver off first before the TV, it doesn't do it. I know I've had it in for repair for the "P" problem before, but can't recall what it was. Too weird.
