TV is about seven years old and never had any problems before today. The thin black horizontal lines go from dark on the far right to progressively lighter as you move across to the left side. It is the same across different HDMI inputs, and appears on top of the tv menu as well.

Sounds like a bad connection on a ribbon cable or plug comming or going to the LCD display. This is something you should not try to fix as these circuits are very very fradgile and you can easily break or tear a ribbon cable . Call the manufacturer to get a tech to assit you. Good Luck

Unplug for 30 seconds from it's power source and then try it again. If that doesn't work, call Samsung for further troubleshooting and have your model number and serial number handy. Please be prepared to tell them how long the line is.

This should be repairable. It may be the LVDS Cable or the Main board problem. The only other problem is the T-Con Board.

The reason for the green lines are the resolution. I'm assuming you're TV is set at 1080i, not 720p or 1080p correct? What happens is the "i" stands for interlaced, meaning, your TV displays your images with scan-lines. The "p" stands for progressive, meaning, TV displays picture as a whole. You can not visibly see the scan lines when seeing 1080i, but certain TV programs are not outputting their show to the resolution you're at, which will cause you to have the green line up at the top of your TV. SOME TVs might let you adjust the settings to rid yourself of the scanline, but most consumer TVs will not let you without the maintenance code to protect your unit from over calibrating and braking your television.
