You don't specify what phone model you have but I suspect the phones internal memory, not the SD cards is full. It doesn't matter how much SD memory you have if the phones internal memory is full. Either delete unwanted apps from the mobile, or old SMS messages, these take up a lot of the mobiles internal memory space. You may also be able to transfer some of your apps to SD memory to free some phone memory.

if you have apps on your sd card as .apk files, you need to download a program from the android market called appsinstaller. it will look for .apk files on your memory card, and then list them for you. you press on each app, and the native package installer should load up, prompting yo if you want to install the app or not. this will install to the internal phone memory, not the sd card.

Internal memory is different than SD card memory. You only have 800MB free on your phone's harddrive, you still have 1GB of space unused on your SD card. Today's apps are large, some are even 1GB big! I would go and purchase at least a 16GB card for your phone. They are around 10 bucks now a days. Then on your phone, go to your settings and select the big apps, there should be an option to move them over to the SD card.
