Engine stopped after short running time

Engine Honda 420 clone stopped as if the switch was turned off after running fine, tried disconnecting oil switch, didn't help, I can smell gas at the carb. Tried starting at a later date, ran for about 30 seconds then stopped again. Now nothing at all.

SOURCE: generator hard to start and backfiring

Sound like you've done things in the correct order, tecumseh's are notorious for carb problems if you let as sit in them. Backfiring is timing related (flywheel key) or valve problems. I would take a closer look at the exhaust valve I don't believe it is closing all the way.

SOURCE: Husqvarna 65021 RS lawn mower, > 1 year old will not start

yea i think you scratched the cylinder. if there is not oil at any point then the engine will damage itself. and it wont have good compression. unless you want to attempt to rebuild the engine i would scrap it.

SOURCE: not starting ran out of gas, added gas and still not starting, can hear fuel pump running, smell gas at engine and exhaust.

This could be a couple of things. Since the gas ran low, it probably is sediment in the tank mucking things up. The sediment is probably blocking the pathway and reducing pressure.

Try replacing the fuel filter (always a good thing.) The other typical place is the strainer on the fuel pump inside the tank. try banging on the bottom of the tank to maybe loose the particles from the strainer, otherwise you may have to get inside the gas tank. If you have to do that It may be a good idea to just replace the fuel pump (the fuel pump uses the gas as a coolant and may have overheated.)

Another place to be concerned is the injectors. Rarely they start collecting deposits as well. Try some cleaner in the tank. The next thing is removing the injectors and soaking them in alcohol (again not easy)

SOURCE: Gas engine starts then stalls

The shop should have adjusted your air/fuel mixture on the carb. considering the year of the vehicle, you may need to replace the carb with a factory re-manufactured unit. Even if you replace the carb with a re-man, it will still need to be adjusted to optimum performance for your particular vehicle.

2013 honda 420 idles fine. Low speed fine. At full throttle suddenly stalls. Stop and it starts up fine

Sounds to me like there’s a delay in fuel delivery. I’d start by adding Mystery oil and/or Sea Foam to fuel system.

The low oil pressure warning lamp will illuminate anytime the ignition switch is turned to the ON position without the engine running. When the engine is running, the light also illuminates if the engine oil pressure drops below a safe oil pressure level. To test the system, perform the following:
If the oil pressure light does not work, perform the following:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. If the lamp does not light, check for a broken or disconnected wire around the engine and oil pressure sending unit switch.
  3. If the wire at the connector checks out OK, pull the connector loose from the switch and, with a jumper wire, ground the connector to the engine.
  4. With the ignition switch turned to the ON position, check the warning lamp. If the lamp lights, make sure the oil pressure switch is properly grounded in the cylinder block, and if so replace the oil pressure switch. If the lamp still fails to light, check for a burned out lamp or disconnected socket in the instrument cluster.
To diagnose an oil pressure light that stays on, perform the following:
  1. Check the engine oil level and top off as necessary. If the engine was 2 or more quarts low on oil, test start the engine after topping off the oil level and recheck the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on, stop the engine immediately and go to the next step.
  2. Disconnect the wire at the sending unit, then turn the ignition switch to theON position. If the light remains on, check the wire from the sending unit to the gauge for being shorted to ground and repair as necessary. If the light goes out, turn the ignition switch OFF and go to the next step.
  3. Replace the oil pressure sending switch with a known good switch.
  4. Start the engine and check the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on with the engine running, stop the engine immediately to avoid severe engine damage until the cause of the problem can be determined.

WARNING
If the oil pressure light remains on while the engine is started, stop the engine immediately. Do not operate the engine until the cause of the problem can be determined. Operating an engine with low oil pressure will cause severe internal damage.

Possible causes for an oil pressure light to stay on are:

Pinched or grounded sensor wireDefective oil pressure sending unitRestricted or severely leaking oil filterExcessive internal engine bearing clearance.Insufficient or severely contaminated engine oilBlocked oil pump pickup screen or severely worn oil pump

Why would the engine stop after being run an hour a month for a couple of months?

The first thing I would do is drain out the old fuel and put in fresh.

Dodge intrepid runs shut off. Started after I changed the window and mirror switches.

sounds wierd but if you explained this correctly, that when mirrors or dis connected car will shut off, if this is correct then there is a short back feeding power to the ignition or computer keeping the engine running, check the wiring going to mirrors and see if there are shorted wires, this is where i would start

The fan runs for a short time, after ignition off, to continue to cool the hot engine.

My Honda 2500 jusst run for 20 30 minutes and stops.

there is a wire coming out of the on\off switch... and going in to the engine (it's job is to turn engine off when oil level is too low)..disconnect it (after checking oil level) and then try again....if it didn't stop and kept working then the that device is down..and you have two options:
1- opening the engine and fixing or replacing that device.
2- keep working while the wire is disconnected (with checkin oil level from time to time because that device was the only thing protecting the engine from overheating) until the next time you open the engine.

i prefer the 2nd option ...and when you open the engine next time you can fix or replace it on your way.
