For saftey the lid lock and lid down switch must be activated before the machine can advance to the next cycle. This has been the sequence for all top loaders..
Check the switch for the lid it is likely defective.
If the agitator is working during the wash cycle,then the lid switch is bad on the spin cycle. This video will show how to remove the cabinet to replace the lid switch. Copy and paste this in your browser.
Odor from your washing machine is being transferred to your clothes. The washer must be cleaned first or it will "reinfect" your clothing upon washing. The secret is to clean the "splash area" just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To clean this area add a washer cleaner to a full load of laundry and wash in a hot setting. The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the splash area. During this cleaning intermittent pausing to soak will give the cleaner time to dissolve the moldy mess. Also, leaving the door open makes the problem worse because it dries out the residue which makes it harder to remove.

2)
Check the tab on the lid that strikes the lid switch; if it is broken,
the washer may stop during the drain cycle. Press and release the lid
switch. If it doesn’t click each time you do this, it’s probably broken.
If you’re experienced at home repair, you can remove the switch, test
it, and replace it if needed; otherwise, call an appliance repairperson.
3) The water pump may be broken or clogged with a small article of clothing, or the controls may be broken;
I have a Series 80 and when I lift the lid it does not stop aggitating when in wash mode. When I lift the lid it does stop spinning when in rinse mode. As designed.
To stop wash-mode aggitation at lid-lift, using the existing lid switch and other electrical components, is not easy and not recommended. I can think of a way to do it (triple-pole lid switch) but I will not detail the idea .. for safety concerns.
To stop aggitation, simply use the main settings dial control. You'll save money and possibly prevent a fire hazard!
