My JVC GZ-MG20 digital camcorder keeps displaying 'HDD Error' when I turn it on. This has come out of nowhere, its not even been dropped!! It wont let me watch or record and when I connect it to my PC it does recognise that there is a hard drive but says it needs formatting.
I really need the footage off the cam, is there any way? I've tried to do a disk cleanup but it wouldn't let me.
Cheers
Try using the "reset" on the lower area after you open the lcd door...
Let me know if it works.

I have the same problem with the JVC MG50U and haven't been able to fix it for over a year now. Any idea's? I have done the reset, it won't let me clean it up because when I choose the HD it gives the same error.
Hi I'm having the same problem too, in my case this problem happened after I tried to see a video from the camera before downloading it to my computer..any ideas..I don't want to get rid of such a especial memories loaded in this camera...
tried reseting. it does not fix the problem!
Same HDD ERROR! problem accompanied by a clicking or cycling sound that goes away in about a minute or so. Another message I get is ‘CAMERA TEMPERATURE IS TOO LOW. KEEP CAMERA POWER ON. PLEASE WAIT’. The disk clean up does not work, it wants to reformat the HD and that’s unacceptable since I want to first download the data from the video camera. Any help is much appreciated.
