I just bought a 'never be for used' Archos 605. After I gave it a full charge through the USB cable linked to my computer I switched it on to sync with Windows Media player 11.0. I currently use three media players with this computer and they have synced with no problems for over a year. But when the 605 connects with WMP on my computer the prompt reads 'Device not recognized.' The 605 is telling me the USB cable is active. I have already reset the 605 back to factory default settings and ran through several procedures with Archos tech. They are sending me a new USB cable to try but said it could be the hard drive. Does this sound right to you for this to be a totally new unit never used?! Every other function on the 605 seems to work fine. I actually went online through my Wifi connection and upgraded the Firmware without any problems. Still waiting after weeks for the cable to arrive. Any ideas?
SOURCE: problems when i sync my archos with media player
Sounds familiar, I did that a few years ago, then it seemed that it formatted my whole mp3, then copied what i wanted. So if I wanted to sync 1 song, that was all on my mp3 after the sync...
That's the last time I used sync, bad memories.
I now copy manually from the PC to my Archos. Then you can control the order of the mapsand the maps you add. If you sych, WMP puts every map in the library in the Arhos music folder.
I just don't get the point of synchronising...
