All electrical comnections must be clean and tight. It seems that the capacitor terminal was loose amd/or dirty. With a loose or dirty connection there is resistance and resistance consumes power, power dissipated as heat. Replace the capacitor wire leads connectors with vlean tight ones. To check for other possible problems, if possible, read the capacitor voltage while the motor is running, should not exceed the cap rated voltage
Yes, the terminals are still marked the same and your compressor (COMP) will always have the larger microfarad rating. What can change though is the voltage rating. It will either be a 370v or 440v. You can use a 440v on a system that originally had the 370v, but not visa versa. Basically, you can go up, but you cant go down. Hope this helps!
On the top of the Capacitor if you look closely H(Compressor) C(Common) & F(Fan) will be stamped on top of capacitor. You will have to follow the wires back, my guess is blue could be the compressor, yellow probably the fan and brown the common. the to yellow wires are probably hooked to each other and can be changed if the motor starts up the wrong way. Follow the wires back to each component to double check
Each motor, compressor have there own capacitor, The 45uf is for the compressor and the 5uf is for the fan motor. If the motor has two brown wires and a black wire, white/or yellow wire the brown wires go to the capacitor and the other two go to the contactor for power. Black to common side of contactor (black)and the other to the red/or yellow side of contactor.
Hi, as long as the 40uf x 440 volts and 5uf x 440 volt capacitor are the same is what you are replacing, yes it will work. Don't replace this 40 uf x 440 volt with a 40 uf x 370 volt cap. Voltage and microfarads must be the same, brand name makes no difference or these numbers, only the uf and voltage. Must be a 40 uf x5 uf, 440 volt dual run cap. It will work if the unit you want to put it on calls for that cap. The comfortair is a 3 ton unit, just be sure it takes a 40x5x440 volt and it will be fine. Shastalaker7
Goodman unit you can use a 1/4 hp or 1/3 hp cond. fan motor but it does sound like a cap. Replace cap first. Its very easy to do just open up panel and replace the silver bullet with terminals out the top. It will say on the side what size it is like 40uf 5uf or something like that. Thats most likely your problem. Russ
