One black wire on the switch hooked to the black sources wire. The other black wire on the switch hooked black up to the fan. The green on the switch wire goes to the bare wire. If there is bare wire you can use the white wire.

The white wire is a neutral conductor. The black wires connect 1 to line (hot) from the panel, and the other goes to the wire that used to go to the ceiling fan.
NEVER connect the white wire which carries return (used ) current back to the source, to the bare or green wire.

Harbor breeze ceiling fans are excellent quality at a reasonable price! But keep in mind there are pretty much troubles on these affordable ceiling fans.

Harbor Breeze Clarksville ceiling fan troubleshoot.

My answer Edited 7th October 2023 as the website links mentioned back in July 2022 now fail. This new link states Harbor Breeze is an exclusive Lowes product now, not sure it it was before, but they are also sold at Home Depot.

https://harbor-breeze.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html

There are a number of copycat and deceptive websites mentioned in this question, and I deleted one Answer that was purely and advertising click thru site and nothing more than that, with no support information at all.

Do your homework check the small print.

This website is helpful but not Harbor Breeze support.

I'm an electrician and will be happy to help you out. I need a little more information to answer accurately first. 1) What is the brand and model number of the "ceiling fan with remote". 2) If replacing / adding switches, how many locations will control the fan / light fixture? Please provide this info and I'm sure we can get this working very quickly.

I removed a Hunter ceiling fan with a light that was installed about 30-40 years ago. There are 2 white wires and one black wire coming out of the ceiling. There is one single switch on one side of the...

The black wire is most likely your neutral. The wall plate should have one light switch and a fan control. If you connect an incandescent or halogen bulb to one of the white wires and the black and you flick the light switch or turn on the fan switch the light should light, you can then determine which white wire is doing what.

Hampton Bay 5745a ceiling fan, no blue wire.

The blue wire is running into the built in receiver inside the fan housing. You will not be able to install another receiver to the fan and have control of the lights. You will be able to control the fan though.

Wiring diagram for harbor breeze celing fan

The colors of the wires in the Harbor Breeze ceiling fan kits tell you what their functions are. The black wire is hot for the fan, the white is a common wire for both the fan and the light kit, green is ground and blue is hot for the light kit. locate the black and blue wires from the ceiling fan and connect them to the black wire inside the electrical junction box by twisting an orange wire connector onto all three wires. Locate the white wire from the ceiling fan and the white wire from the junction box and attach the two wires together with a wire connector. Connect the bare copper wire onto the green wire from the ceiling fan mounting bracket by twisting an orange wire connector onto the two wires. Push all wiring inside the electrical box. good-day !

Wiring a ceiling fan w/light

To add to red54's comments:

This is what I believe you have:

- one source in the ceiling box (black & white)

- one donwline circuit in ceiling box going to another wall/ceiling box (black&white)

- on switch wire in ceiling box coming from your wall switch (black & white) -- this is the white wire which will be hot when the switch is truned on

Here's how it should be connected:

- all 3 blacks in ceiling box connected together -- no other wires in this bundle

- white wire (which is hot when switched) coming from switch connects to the black/blackwhite fan wires

- connect all reamining white wires together in bundle

- connect all ground wires together

It's that simple. Trick is figuring out, of the three cables in the ceiling box, which is source, which is downline, which is switch.
Maybe red54's procedure can help you figure that out.
