If it is a cable damage issue perhaps some wireless headphones that work off bluetooth may help
please check beforehand that the model you have has bluetooth before purchasing
The OTG adapter is not guaranteed to work with all tablets, or peripherals. It has to be enabled by the manufacturer. having said that, If the supplied keyboard doesn't work directly, then It sounds like the tablet, or keyboard, is busted.

Try a factory reset!
Press and hold vol + and power for 10 sec. android appears with warning triangle. press vol - and power menu will pop up select wipe data/factory reset. once it says data wipe complete select reboot.
Hard Reset the tablet by holding the power on off whilst holding the volume down button until machine switches off, then restart.on some machines it may be volume up instead, others it will be the home button and power button.this should reset tablet to default settings.If it continues to play up then it is likely the touch digitizer is faulty.if you are trying to use a USB keyboard disconnect it before doing any of the above then once tablet is running reconnect the device.it could be the USB keyboard that has a key stuck down due to spilt drink or food.hope this gives you some pointers.
You may have a screen saver running in background which you need to disable in general display settings.try holding the power button for at least ten seconds then try and restart the tablet after you have done that.
