I have the same problem. None of the answers are to the point. I DO NOT want to to pay someone to do a part worth $5.55 and I have removed all the screws BUT the darn top is hung up on the switch side. WHY?

Is this a wrap up power cord where you wrap it around two lugs on the vacuum, or is it a rewind type where the cord is wound inside the body of the vacuum?

You have a broken power cord. Hoover is notorious for power cords. I'm speaking from personal experience. Replace/have the power cord replaced.

I would try to find a repair shop to replace it as bissell does not currently offer replacement power cords (atleast not on their website) if your power cord is only chewed in one place you could always just splice it back together and use some electrical tape. sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Replacing a fraayed and twisted power cord on a Hoover windtunnel upright

ok so I took this vaccum apart completely except for the electrical and motor systems. It seems to me that without dismantling both of these systems on the vaccum you can't replace the power cord. And I wouldn't recommend taking them apart unless you know what you are doing since replacing the power cord seems to require cutting the old power cord and soldering the new one onto the old terminals. All in all its probably easier to get a new vaccum altogether.
