You have to verify if there is power going in to the back light inverter. If there is power going in to it, check if there is power coming out. If no power is going in to the inverter work back to the source; most likely the main power supply area. It would be nice for you to have the shop service manual for the set if you are to spend some time on trying to fix it. You may need a scope to perform specific tests indicated in the manual.

If there is power leaving the inverter, then the problem and be the lamp assembly inside of the display. Depending on the model the display lights are not always serviceable.
